Notes for V
INNIE S. STOVER:
Memories of Vinnie include: sledding on the hill in front of their home on the Old State Road in the 1950's. Their was no traffic in that area then, and we could sled for hours without seeing a car other than the mailman. Today, this area is in the heart of the Alum Creek Dam recreation area and Lewis Center has grown into the area as a suburb of Columbus. Vinnie liked picking blackberries and tending her garden.. She always wore a sunbonnet when working in the garden. One day, Vinnie was determined to clear the brush from the steep bank in front of her house. Thinking she would make short order of the job by setting fire to it, she developed a severe case of poison ivy. In the 1950's, not everyone had a telephone, and those that did were on a "party line". Vinnie didn't have a phone and when in need of help when she was nearing the end of her days, would turn on the living room light. I can remember Mom waking and looking out the window to see if the light was on. Unlike today, people in earlier times looked out for their neighbors and family members.                                                                                                                               From the Delaware Gazette.........."Mrs. Vinnie Kiser, 71, Worthington- New Haven Rd. RD #4 died at her home Wednesday night of a heart attack. She had been a lifelong resident of Berlin Township. She was a member of the Peachblow Community Workers and the Peachblow United Brethren Church "Services for Mrs. Vinnie E. Kiser were held Friday afternoon from the Doty Funeral Home with the Rev.
