He was born 18 Aug 1890 in Berlin Township, Delaware, County, Ohio/Delaware Co., OH, and died 07 Jul 1950 in Delaware County, Ohio.

OWARD ORVILLE DURFEY:
      Delaware Gazette, July 8, 1950..........."Mr. Howard Orville Durfey was born August 18, 1890 in the Peachblow Community. He was the son of Ellsworth R. and Lucy Mae Horny Durfey. On June 20,1917, he married Mattie Marie Griffith, and to them was born one daughter, Mattie Mae. He passed away Friday, July 7, 1950, in Jane Case Hospital after a serious illness of three months. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Marie Durfey, and the daughter, Mrs. Mattie Mae Haas; one grandson, Joseph Lee Haas, Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Velma Davis, Bel Air, Md.; and one brother, Byron E. Durfey of Miami, Fla. In early youth Howard joined the Peachblow U.B. Church and for many years had been an active member of the West Berlin Presbyterian Church, having served for several years as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a charter member and past master of Utopian Grange having belonged the full 35 years of it's existence. Howard moved with his parents to Berlin Station in 1912, and for some years associated with his father in the grocery business. He spent some time as a barber in Columbus, and his skill aided him in his service to the community in times of sickness, etc. Since his marriage, he lived on the Griffith farmstead east of Berlin. For 22 years, Howard had driven a school bus for the Berlin School, and the safety of children had always been one of his first concerns. He was for many years substitute mail carrier for R.D.#4, Delaware and belonged to the Delaware County Mail Carriers Association. During World War I he was a member of the armed forces. He was at Governers Island ready to go overseas when the Armistice was signed. He received an honorable discharge December 13, 1918. Howard Durfey will be sadly missed in the church, in the grange, and in the community for he was always ready to do cheerfully what was asked of him." Written by a neighbor
