Samuel Miller Beck, born in Tennessee around 1816, rode with Capt. Miles Vernons Co., Lindsays Reg't Tennessee Mtd. Volunteers during the Cherokee WAr in North East Texas. Enrolled and was munstered in on July 12, 1837 at Cherokee Agency to July 12, 1838 at Ft. Cass, Tenn. He married Darthula Adeline Gear in September of 1847. They lived in Rusk Co., Texas and in the 1850 Texas census and then in Upshur Co., Texas in the 1860 Texas census. Samuel also fought under Capt. James Smith's Co., A Reg't (Hays') Texas Mtd. Volunteers in the Mexican War. Enrolled and mustered in on May 6, 1847 at San Antonio, Texas to June 4, 1847 at San Antonio, Texas. He also fought in the Civil War in Co. L, 4th Reg't Ark. CAl. Volunteers. He died on August 14, 1865 from exposure, resulting in chronic diarrhea. Sometime between 1865 and 1870 Darthula and her children moved to Logan Co., Arkansas where she married William F. Denton. They eventually moved into Indian Territory Choctaw Nation. William was killed by Julius Folsom in Boggy Depot, I.T.
