The following poem was written by Lloyd Dwayne Beach,

son of Hollis, Oklahoma native

Eunice Gertrude (York) Beach.

Dwayne wrote the poem while home on leave,

just before he shipped out to fight in World War II,

and was killed in battle in Argonne, France.

Take this Letter to My Mother

Take this letter to my mother

Far across the deep, blue sea;

It will fill her heart with pleasure,

She’ll be glad to hear from me.

How she wept when we last parted,

How her heart was filled with pain

When she said, “Good-bye, God bless you,

We may never meet again.”

Take this letter to my mother,

It will fill her heart with joy;

Tell her that her prayers are answered,

God protects her darling boy.

Tell her to be glad and cheerful,

And pray for me wherever I may roam;

And some day I’ll turn my footsteps

Back to Mother dear and home.

Take this letter to my mother,

It is filled with words of love;

If on earth I never meet her,

Tell her that we’ll meet Up Above.

Where there is no hour of parting,

All is peace, love and joy;

God will protect my dear old Mother,

He protects her darling boy.
