The Old Qualls Store & Cafe

Copyright 2005 Gary D. Courtney. Local ranchers Hal Green (l) and Earl Gower (r) and the author (c), on horseback, say goodbye to Debbie Rucker, after a Grand Opening breakfast, and trail ride through the backwoods.
Site of the movie "Where the Red Fern Grows", the store is owned by Gary's friends Jack & Rena Rucker, and is open for meals on weekends.
Jack's granny, Jincy Powell, built the original store in 1905, this store in 1935, and served as Postmistress for many years, until the government took all the settlers' land for Camp Gruber, in 1942, and killed the town and farms. Whittaker and Heather Courtney received a guided tour by Jack several years before the store was restored, and learned all about the antiques inside.
