Notes for J
OHANN GEORG FETT:
Johann Georg Fett was 18 when he came to America with his brother Henry, age 16. his parents and younger siblings came over two years later. It appears Johann George and Henry entered this country in New York. After a brief stay, Henry traveled to Ohio but there is no mention of Johann Georg with him. Churc records say he was living in St. Louis, MIssouri in 1847. His parents entered in new York and went straight to Ohio and stayed until 1839, then moved on to Iowa. Where George was during those 10 years is a guess, at this time.
If date given in marriage records is correct, for marriage to Christine Schoemann (Sept. 12, 1848), their first child daughter Katharina was born only 3 months later. Later in Georg's death record the marriage date is 1847. He was either 30 or 31 when he married for the first time.
Georg's first child Katharina died at 9 months with the cause of death listed as "teething". They did not have another child until 1851, when Maria was born. Church records state Maria's saint name as Anna. There is very little info on their next child, Katherina born in 1853. I can only find her in church records as married surviving child in parents death records. Their 4th child, Christine is listed onlly once as baptized on Sept. 23, 1855 and year of her birth is missing...2 July _ _ _ _. Their only surviving son, George was born July 15, 1857. He married and stayed in the area. Son, Conrad, is listed in death records only with D.O.B. of July 15, 1858 and death march 14, 1861. Their last child, Johann Nicolaus, was born March 22, 1860 and died on April 17, 1879 at age 18. Nicolaus was 13 when his mother, Christine Schoehmann, died and 17 when Johann Georg remarried.
George married Christine Wener in 1876 at the age of 59. They had one child a year later, Friedrich, aka Fritz. He lived for over 20 more years and died at the age of 80.

(Marriages taken from the Holy Ghost United Church of Christ Records, Darmstadt, Illinois)

Further notes:
Georg Fett "Farmer" to date: Sept. 12, 1848
Witnesses:
Christine Schoemann - Peter Steinheimer - Phillip Knecht

Tidbit -July 2001
According to all the info I've read reagarding German naming customs, Johann Georg would have used Georg as his given name and probably used that name in legal dealing. Johann was his saint name so he would not have been known by that name.
===========================
Johann Georg Fett purchased two plots of property in the Washington Township, county of Washington, Illinois. Purchase for both is listed on 6/8/1848 -several months before his first marriage. Both plots were in section 31. The first plot was 39.74 acres at $1.25/acre, total cost of $49.67. The second plot was 39.73 acres at $1.25/acre, total cost $49.66. I could be mistaken but I think there was only one plot of land, however, the source for this information is the Illinois State Archives, IRAD database.

HRISTINA HOOS NEE WERNER:
Church records state Christine came to America alone in 1868. She was 29 years old and resided in Lenzburg, Illinois. There is mention of a brother Gottfried, in the church records, who resided in Lenzburg also. She probably came over to live with this brother, who was already established. On July 25,1869 she married George Oscar Haes and had a daughter, Marie Christine in 1872, who was baptized in the Holy Ghost church. George Haes dies sometime after this event and on September 1, 1897 she marries Johann Georg Fett. Johann Georg was widowed in 1873 and had at least one child, Johann Nicolaus age 16 at home.
By August of the next year, Friedrich (Fritz) was born. Their combined household included a newborn, Christine's 5 year old daughter, Johann Georg's 17 year old son, Nicolaus(who dies 2 years later). Johann's oldest son George wasn't married yet and was probably still at home. Johann Georg's oldest daughter Marie was married but that been thru the tragedy of losing her first two children (daughters) in infancy. Her only living child, George Lueder was born a month after her mother died and was now 4 years old. Catherine, Johann Georg's other daughter, may or may not have still been around.
This must have been a challenge, at best, for everyone.
Christine and Johann Georg had twenty years together before Johann Georg died in 1897. Christine was 58 then and her son Fritz was 20. Christine's church death notice says she lived with Fritz until her death at age 66, in 1905.
