Generation No. 3

3. HENRY CLAY3 RAMBO (JOSEPH M.2, AARON RAMBO1 (RELATED?))2 was born 1858 in Montigue, Siskiyou Cnty, Bougus Creek,Ca.3,4, and died June 26, 1926 in Burns,Oregon b.Burns cementary no headstone.. He married (1) MAUDE IMOGINE ANDERSON. He married (2) MAUDE IMOGENE LEWIS 1900 in Fort Bidwell, Ca., daughter of THOMAS LEWIS and EMMA PARKER. He married (3) MAUDE IMOGENE ,LEWISANDERSON November 05, 1900 in Fort Bidwell, California.

Notes for HENRY CLAY RAMBO:
Our family oral history story is " that Henery Clay Rambo started to help a Tom Anderson, a U.S. Government contract supply train operator, owner who stopped at Joseph Rambos place at the top of Anderson grade? Joseph operated a way station on Bogus Creek at Montegue, California." Tom and Henry Clay certainly must have supplied Fort Warner which was at first near Drakes peak in the mountains West of Warner Vally, Oregon. It was to cold there so, Fort Warner was moved to the top of Heart Mountain on the Eastern side of Warner valley, The northern Piutes Indians used to occupy this area.
This great richly laked valley was created by a tremendous earthen fault as was the famous fault of Aberts Rim near Palsey, Oregon. Another interesting fact about the valley of Warner is that at its Southern end it is very swampy. Big wild razor back hogs run there. Tto get across the deep swamp area from west to east the Federal Troops (C:1850) hauld tons and tons of rocks and built up finally a stone bridge its still there of course but under water. To get there now go down the old Army road past Dixons another old family of Warner, Valley. Then on to the bridge area. Frank Callderwood a south Warner rancher pioneer used to cross the stone bridge; then even 55 years ago it was under water a foot or so. Franks old skinny horse would put his head down sniff, snort and gingerly step by step cross over the stone bridge safely. This was a bridge Henry Clay must have used when it was newly laid down.
Then in those day's to get on up to the top of Heart Mountain a mule could get up the Riffle Trail the soldiers hand built,1860's,70,s to Fort Warner.
On one of the supply train trips Clay Rambo and Tom Andeson must have scouted out their ranch there under Heart Mountain. They picked a place at the outflow from Heart mountain named degarmo Creek, which ran across what is now or was in Clays time The Horonomus Field. Then on down to the ranch below to the Fine's Ranch. They the Fine people used to: as did Tom and Clay sell horses to the U.S. Army.Tom and Clay had 200 head of horse's.
There was also a natural Artesian spring on the Anderson/Rambo property. Well I told you this was an interesting place. Guess what now. Well my brother is a project person to so he once traced Captain Warner's exploration into the area in C: 1845. He kept a log (Fremont) and used a star position sextant to keep track of where he was and was going. He stopped at," yep" the springs where Tom Anderson and Our Henery Clay Rambo latter built their ranch. Captain Fremont noted in his log according to Robert's telling the facts to me. " We are in the most desolate region of the earth." I can not believe at the end of this short life we live I am and I can act as a historian for such a place.
Names there in Warner Vally known certainly by Henry Clay Rambo. Like Shuster, Jim Turpin, Archie Eides,Tom Murphy, Sid Lewis, Con Fitzgerald, Jerry Berry, Clarence Dixon, Jim Roberts, Frank Calderwood, and his brother Ed the Ford car dealer in Lakeview. In H.C. and Maudes day's it took a wagon or buggy two or three days to ride out to Warner Vally and the same time to get back to Lakeview.People operated way stations along the road rut. Maude and H.C. bought the first car in Warner Vally from Ed Callderwood the Ford dealership in Lakeview. It was called a glass wagon..
Andrew Anderson no relation to Tom Anderson, and Martin Anderson was his brother. His decendants still live in Plush.Andrew was a land surveyer. He perhaps surveyed the Warner Vally Ranch. Andrew got older but might have married my mother Elaine.
(Jerome Rambo married to Charlette Fine for a time in late 1930's).She was a hot mama the daughter of old Joe fine of H.C.s time. Waren Laird Sr.Cook Laird a decendent lives on the same place. It hasent changed one iota in 100 years except for a new tin equipment shed. Saddle Horse's were the Cadilacs then. a single footer, a pacer, a ropeing favorite, a strong trail drive favorite.Aa Vaquero, might have a working string of ponies of 10 or 15 . Warren Laird Sr. Lived until perhaps 100 years old.Clay Rambos sons wife Jeannie Beans Fithenry is still alive in Lakeviews rest home at 98 or so years old.Maybe Clay Rambo did not know some of these people. but most. Anyway Tom Dahearty used to have a plush store.Tom Murpy had a place south of present Plush. Plush had a one room all grade school house and there was a one room red school house out in nort warner at thr Inquest place. for homesteaders kids trying to farm alkali desert land they starved out like flies. and Maude bought up there homesteads for Talor Grazeing rihts for the cattle. It takes about 15 acres to support a Herford out there twords Flagstaf Lake.
The White Hotel in Plush a regular 1880 bar and hotel, a big place. More than once Clay probly fell down the steps of that old bar room still there in the 1930s Did you know in time before I was born perhaps before 1900; Plush had a electric power generator and lights. That Plush used to be up where Egans Ranch is below the Sid Lewis's stone house still there reburbished and adent decendent Bell lives there. The JJ ranch house and barn still stand as they did when Our ancestor Morris worked there as a cowboy for 22 years before 1900. Mr. Cupper the water master.I used to have a picture of Clay Rambo and George Cox's father poseing for a camera.Where Egan Park now is in Plush used to be a livery stable Barn. and across the street was an elegant big white house.Next to the White hotel used to be the Plush Merchantile with a brick basement it burned down before 1900 it has been dozed over now.
In the rim rock point above Plush is an Indian cave that has never been investigated or excavated, found there tullie sandels that I now knoware about perhaps 12-13000 years old .That anyone used to any day find the most beautiful obsidian arrow heads some small ones of the most fine workmanship and moters and pestals.. That there used to be a cinabar mine on Flagstaf Lake banks. That Herkamore Diamonds (sun stones are found only in Warner Vally. That there used to be 10-15 lb. lake trout runs up Honey Creek.. That Crump Lake is named after Charlie Crump and he struck a gyser drilling a well in his pasture. that Lakeview Hot Springs used to be a Sanitarium I was born in one of its cottages. That there are gold diggings in the Rabbitt Hills and Earl Stanly Gardner tried to locate the lost Blue Buckey Mine out near Wagon Tire, Oregon. That Maude Rambo's brand was the (bell a) and her horse brand on the jaw was the 7-spurshank. Dr. Daily of Lakeview, and warner vally fame came to warner vally in the 1870's and setup the 7-T ranch the MaKee ranch now. Its right next to the Anderson/Rambo ranch They most certainly were talking neighbors. Phobee Makee is still on the ranch and she is over 100 years old.Maude told me Dr. Daily asked her to marry himhe asked Maude Rambo to be his wife and produce his Hier?I can remember every detail of the home ranch and Maude and we left the property in 1936 I was 5 years old when I last was on the property.
Anderson Lake near the property is named after or for Tom Anderson. That Tom Anderson was from New York and his parents were born in England.
That the water way channels between the many lakes in the vallys are called sloughes, One was called Mugwamp it belonged to the Warren Larids. Mugwamp emptied into Flagstaff Lake. Then into Cambell Lake then to Stone Corral Lake,(my moma owned the Stone Corral Lake property up into the late 1930's.)
The big stone corral there on the property is an acient mystery no one knows who or when it was built. and then the water runs on out to Blue Joint Lake lying under a vertical rim rock perhaps up to 1000 feet in height.
Fort Rock in the Catlow Vally,Oregon, Clay Rambos home the last half of his life is a major archeological spot of the New world, inhabited for 12-30,000 years before the present. Major Mezoic fossil finds are made in the Fort Rock area. That there is a river washed gravel stone query for road graveling in Plush hill. River washed rock in the desert? This history is about Henry Clay Rambo's life and Tom Anderson and what they left. Now it is all in other peoples hands; strangers hands.
(Maude I. Lewis (Aderson) and Henry Clay Rambo) owned many properties in the valley. Such as The Barrey place, the Barnhardy place up on Heart mountain and another place called maybe Cottenwood. Up near now the Rangers station and hot springs where we all eventtually went for a bath. (It was in Clays days the Lyons Ranch (Sheep) Dr. Lyon was a Dentist in Lakeview long ago).
The mountain; (Heart Mountain) was taken forceably by the government for a wild life refuge for; Firstly the Prong Horn Antelope. and the Royal Order of the Antelope for richies. The Order members built a bar where the old Fort Warner once stood on Heart Mountain. and called it the Blue Sky Hotel.
Now 60 years later the government has expanded protection for the re-imported Mountain Sheep, there always were lots of White tailed deer there, The Wild Cat, Skunks and such other life forms of warner valley.
In fact the government your's and mine took over the whole valley recently and it is now all a refuge For Jack Rabbits and a disease Tularimia, a blood infection giving that gives the Jack Rabbits big warbles we called them, its natures way to control their population
Mud Hens and gooses,(Honkers) and other varieties of flying things and other grounded species, cyotes, scorpions and Blue Belly Lizards.

Elaine said about her father Clay Rambo she only once can remember seeing him.
She could remember Clays Knee high bootsas he satat akitchen table. that's all. As for Jerome he never
shared verbally any information about the past or himself. An indian
trait.
The life and times of Maude I. and Henry Clay Rambo is like a story tellers imagination from a true wast magazine. It Does> But: The things I put down here however sqewed are true and not made up as I go, The truth we all know is rarely a sweet pill.
First in place would be that (Made I.) (her behind her back name) was a beautiful woman. Fair of hair and skin and shape.
Lucy Bates Rambo I can imeadiately tell you are a (Rambo) ; E.(Ramboe) ;G. (Rambow); F. (Rambough); and then try Ramsey as the search helpers suggest. You being; as I saw in my grnndmother Maude; and my mom; Elaine. The qulities of Rambo, and Cox 'A toughness; tough cat's. By that term I mean survivor's, strong person's .Moma and Maude were both in their 80's when they slipped away with Broken hearts in the month of May in the years of 1957 and 1986 respectively.
Jerome Rambo; Maudes son, whom she dearly loved, He and I too just cried and cried as we sat in the pews of the Mourtuary.Elaine curiously did not; but in her turn she loved Maude too much, I believe now. Not one tear at Maudes burial or either at Jeromes burial 12 years later
Goodby to you uncle, mother and grandmother. You know. "I will always have a tear in my eye until I see you all again", I put that in their book's. Jerome is buried in the savage land which he loved as much as his mother.
Elaine on the other hand is buried in a beautiful cemetary a place where hero's such as Major Bong a WW-II Ace and the BaBa Black Sheeps leader are to on the departure path of the N/S runway at Burbank Airport in Burbank, California. Oh those great planes of those days past;
Mama, was like the little old lady in the moveing picture "Airport" takeing a trip when ever one of her children would supply their companys travel benifits for her. Truely enjoying roaring mightly down this same runway Amelia Airheart not so long ago took her Electra down then off, airborne flying into into history. Approperately I think buried there, as we decendents all made our careers in the aircraft industry. Much of mine also on this same runway where man in his machines straining to raise to heaven's gate, where; Maudes, Elaines Marvins and Jerome and all our released living souls will easly enter.

While alive though in Plush, Jerome left a big old fashioned travelers trunk under maudes kitchen table. Alas then and now forever and ever to me forbidden to peak inside. I did not eather ever.
What did Jerome have in the trunk?Yes I will ever more wonder. Jerome probably had in his trunk, nothing more than boyhood treassures, Nana taught me to have a treasure box also when I was A little boy. Maybe a couple of pictures of Maude in her youth. Or of himself in his military academy uniform on parade rest review. I had marbles in my box but Jerome was just not the marbles type. Jerome got put in the military academy I heard because he was in trouble alot living unsupervised like Elaine I will tell about a little later. It is rumered that Jerome Knoked up a little lady and she had a child. The child I heard was a musicle genious as is my own 10 year old grandson.
"One picture is worth a thousand words". In one picture of Maude I saw and my sister has now; Maude is in a short costume dress and white stockings in a dancers piquet. And in another Maude in a gold frame seen in a 1/2 frontal view. I believe Maude educated herself well she wrote poetry well and could play the banjo and sung well. she also could tell me the most wonderful stories of princes knights and heros of justice and honesty truthfulness and considerations that will never leave me. We like all our age listned every dark night to the radios golden times storys. The radio powered by a 6 volt auto battery. and needing a very long antenna. Yep I also tried to see the people inside the magic box.
As i said Maude adopted; took me over from Elaine almost at my birth, bought me up to my teens. At Maudes knee I listened to family lore; fabricat.ions? one sided? Fasinated I would forget to chew my peanut butter and jelly sandwich's.
I would ask "Nana" various questions but I never got any answers about her early life from her birth in 1874 to her appearance in Warner Valley in 1896 at Tom and Clay Rambos ranch. Just nothing was then or is now known, except what I will tell you..How could this be possible? Do not forget though Maude I. Rambo was no ordinary woman. Not a clue to her life from 1874 to 1896. Will anything ever be known about her? I intend to change this lack of knowledge now before I to go screaming down that runway trying to stop breaks jamed full on and propellers reversed.
"I dont want to go". A young soldier told me as he got on Flying Tigers Dc-8-63 at Tacoma one night in 1969 bound for Vietnam. Woody Allen Says " I dont mind dyeing I just dont want to be there when it happens."
No even Elaine,Moma knew anything about Maude, except she would tell me about painful experiances she said " Maudes maiden sisters lived in the Waring street house that Tom Anderson had built in Berkely,Ca. Dora and Olive Moma said "would quarrel back and forth from bed room to bed room about money".Moma said "they did not feed her and she would find bread and put sugar on it, thats what she lived on". Every ones dead and it all need's airing. and any knowledge should not matter one iota in the sceam of things. If pressed perhaps Maude would say "they have the house wired and are listing. Just you never mind, its all in my lawyer's hands I believe in makeing these sort of statement's she was living litterly in the past; refering to her ancient riparian water rights on Degarmo Creek and the flood plain rights to Heart Lakes spring time run off from the Warner Mountains down Honey Creek. Its overflow, thence out through Mugwamp and on to Flagstaff Lake.
I think Maude may have had law suites against everyone in North Warner Valley and in turn others were sueing her because she did such things as put big diesel driven pumps on Heart Lake to pump water from it to irregate with. As the lake actually dried up during the 1920's amd 1930's. Everyone else needed the same water.
I visited Lakeview,Oregon about 15 years ago. An old attorney of Maudes day still alive then; sitting in his office. I called on him and asked him if he remembered Maude? "He" said " who could forget her" (not in friendly way either.) as you can see I think her desire was to control all of Warner Valley.
Maudes mother Emma Jane Parker//lewis had three other girls,Dora Fanny and Olive their father was Thomas (A) or(L.) Lewis.Maude insisted his middle name was Llewylan ; Llewylan (Welch) is also used for "Lewis" it is not likely to double up your name, and Maudes birth record shows Thomas S. Lewis as her father.Family lore says Thomas Lewis was a son of a Welch noble family as this family story is told. Thomas S. Lewis Gentleman, recieved aletter that he must return home to Wales as his father had expired. Once home in Wales awhile it is said he was attacked and murderd by a street thug unknown. and also is anything else about him. It is unlikely for him to go off to wales leaving a wife and 4 girls alone i think in San Francisco,Ca.
Fanny Lewis Maudes sister married a Frenchman a mineing engineer and Titled a Viceroy named Devershay? Then latter Fanny's daughter Margarite married a Count de le Raphiel ; the Raphiel's had Fannys geanology done. Her parternal name Parker traced back as far as the Archbiship of Cantebury Mathew Parker 1551. He the Archbishop being a major player in the Protestant movement of the period. The old man you know wanted to divorce a wife, which was not a thing one could do as a catholic. Mathew Parker also wrote a couple of bibles and was a confident of Queen Elithabeth 1.
The story continues.
