In 171 Hans Herr led in the formation of the first Lancaster area Mennonite settlement along the Pequea Creek, near the location of the Hans Herr House. This is the oldest house still standing for tourist visitation and built by European immigrants in Lancaster County and points west in North America. It was construced in 1719 southeast of the present town of Willow Street by Hans' son, Christian Herr, to serve as a dwelling place and meetinghouse.
