Notes from Helen Inderhees 1966.
In 1866 the house Bernard and Helena were living in was sold and they had to find another place to live. There were very few houses built during the War. They went to Mt. Adams and finally found a two room house for sale on Carnery Street. Helena said there was one large room down and one large room up and a large porch upstairs, but no way to get up as there was no stairs. They had to go out the back door downstairs, up the hill and to a front door upstairs. The first thing Bernard did was build a stairway up to the second floor and as soon as they had the money, one room to the rear and one room on top, one room to the front and so on until they had a house of nine rooms.

Bernard and Helena Cremering grave site is marked at St. John's Cemetery on Vine Street in St. Bernard Ohio with a large white monument. In raised letter's the Cremering name is shown on the bottom. Bernard's name, date of birth, death and age at death in recessed letters is on the left side and Helena's name, date of birth, death and age at death in recessed letters is located on the right. Located at the top center is a symbol which includes an anchor, cross and a heart each overlapping the other. The following is grave stone terminology with religious explanations.

Anchor
Early Christians devised clever signs so that they could guide one another to the secret places where they worshipped. The anchor is a disguised cross when you see it in a Christian setting. From its utility, the further meaning of Christ as that which prevents us from drifting off and becoming lost comes. One rarely sees anchors on inland gravestones, so the presence of the symbol on a tomb may carry all the above religious overtones or it may just mean that the deceased was a sailor. An anchor with a broken chain stands for the cessation of life

Cross
Christians behold the hope of resurrection in the cross. The cross can also stand for nationalist divisions, especially between the Western Church and the Eastern. Orders of crusading knights often devised their own crosses as they set forth to pillage infidels and fellow Christians. The cross also appears in Japanese heraldry where it stands for the four quarters of the earth or the four cardinal directions. Or it merely pleases the eye

Heart
Stylized hearts stand for the affection of the living for the dead.

His girl and his sister Joanna always kept up their friendship and they would visit each other. Some years later she married another man and had two daughters who died in theirs teens.
