Joseph Selby "J. S." Holley and Minnie Allen had eight children. J.S. or "Joe S" was in the laundry business most of his life. According to census records, he was in Yell County AR in 1900, Sequoyah County, OK in 1910, and in Benton County, AR in 1920 "as a widower, and a laundryman with his own shop". He was 52 in 1920.

Elizabeth Davis, her grandmother, was the midwife attending her birth.
