Notes for Susanna Whitman, (alias Wightman):
Susanna belonged to one of the most respectable families of the Colony, proved herself an exemplary wife, mother and neighbor, and harmoniously cooperated with James in achieving great family success.

Marriage Notes for James Ballou and Susanna Whitman:
Their seven children were probobaly all born in Loquasquissuck, since called Louisquisset, originally in Providence, Rhode Island, later Smithfield, and then Lincoln, R. I.. There James Ballou and wife Susanna settled soon after marriage, about half a mile west of Albion Factory Village on the Blackstone River, and a little northward from the farms of his brothers, John and Peter. He preceded them as a settler in that locality--certain records showing that his original domicile had been erected previously to 1865. The general tract of territory bearing the Indian name of Loquasquissuck seems to have been regarded by Providence Proprietors as an eminently desirable one. For as early as 1658, they appointed a Committee to clear up a portion of its wilderness lands. James very early built his first log house there, possibly before he was married. His second domicile, a framed structure, stood near the same site, and the ancient well still remained in 1865. This second dwelling house was inherited by his son Samuel, but in 1782 was superseded by his grandson Moses. On this homestead James and wife lived out their useful and honorable lives.
