First Lieut. Erwin Richard Schott was born Dec. 7, 1918 in East Longmeadow, MA. Youngest son of Henry Schott, Sr. and Anna Louise Wuthe.
Erwin enlisted into the US Army Air Forces in 1941. He became a pilot and flew a B-17, Flying Fortress in World War II.
On May 1, 1943, First Lieut. Erwin R. Schott got his assignment to fly in his first combat mission, as co-pilot, where he and his 9 crew members were sent to St. Nazaire, France to bomb a Nazi Submarine base. These brave young men never came home. All ten crew members went down into the English Channel after being hit by enemy fire. All Missing in Action as of May 1, 1943.
