[1860 Census - Wisconsin - Green County - Mt. Pleasant (2) - August 10, 1860 - page 409 - image 23]:
Lucious Tone, 26, a laborer and his wife, Emlie?, 22. They were born in Ohio and Illinois, respectively. Also listed was a son, William L., 2 and an unnamed daughter, 7 months, both born in Wisconsin. Mr. Tone's personal property was valued at $50.

Note: There is no mention of Laura Tone. Given that her obituary indicates that she was born July 6, 1857 in Columbus, Ohio, she should be listed. However, her age is given as 21 in the 1880 Census, so it is likely that she is the unnamed daughter listed above.

Obituary: Lucious M. Tone, Dead

Lucious M. Tone died at his home in this city at five o'clock Monday morning after an illness extending over two years, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 11 days. The cause of......
....are now living. William L., of this city; Laura Wells, of Canada; Mrs. C. F. Bemis, of Minneapolis; Charles of Sious Falls; Jesse, of Bermidji, Minn.; and Mrs. Nellie Whipkey, of Sheridan, Wyoming. Of these only William and Charles were able to be present at the funeral which was held at the house Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. J. D. Vannoy conducting the service and the remains interred in Oak Hill Cemetery.

As a husband he was kind hearted and generous and as a father the tenderest love for his children. He had numerous friends in Estherville who will hasten to extend words of sympathy to the aged wife and children.
------------------------------------------------------
I went thru everything I have and I have very little of that side of the family. I only have verbal info that Paula gave us in May of 1992. Some may help a little.

Laura`s and Nell`s dad, "Gr. Tone". During the civil war the army came to his town and were recruiting. He was so excited to go serve. So he ran home to chop some wood for his wife before he left. A piece of wood flew up and he was blinded in one eye and could not serve.

Charlie Tone, brother of Laura and Nell, had one leg. He was a `ner do well and an alcoholic.

Laura well`s mother, Emily Tone, ran a boarding house, earned the money and wore the pants in the family.

Nell was abandoned by her husband and was forced to work as a prostitute to make a living for her and her daughter. Her daughter stepped on a rusty nail and got blood poisoning and died at the age of 7. Nell remarried and at the age of 40 had a girl named Paula. I think this all happened in Missoula. I have that written in the margin.

Laura Tone Wells and Clarice Wells maternal grandmother, Beulah`s mother never got along. Laura was upset that Clarice took her son, George Wells, away. Also a first child came early.\

Laura Well`s family, the Tones, migrated from Ireland in the late 1700`s. They came to upstate N.Y. and followed the immigration trail across to the great lakes and around and down into Iowa, Ohio and Minnesota. Tone is a very common name in Ireland. Paula claimed she was related to Franchote Tone. She made a trip to Calif. and met with him.
When I asked her if she was related to Maxfield Parrish, the painter, she said yes, but I suspected that was not true as she was vague.
She is related to the Parrishes in Cle Elum and there are still Parrishes there.
