Marriage Notes for Addie Tone and Charles Bemis:
Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversiary Last Saturday

Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bemis were married 50 years ago last Saturday. Last Saturday they drove to Mr. Bemis' old home town, Estherville, where a niece of Mrs. Bemis lives, Mrs. Art Katley, and two brothers, Jess Tone and Will Tone. There Mrs. Katley kept open house Saturday afternoon and evening in honor of the golden wedding affair, and a host of friends called.

On Sunday noon a family dinner was served here as a courtesy for them.

Mr. and Mrs. Bemis were married at Spirit Lake in the home of the bride's parents, July 22, 1883, and went at once to Estherville to live where Mr. Bemis was engaged in metal work in connection with a har(d)ware store.

Mrs. Bemis' maiden name was Miss Addie Tone. The Estherville Vindicator carried this account of the wedding:

"Bemis-Tone. At the residence of the brides parents in Spirit Lake, July 22, 1883, Mr. Chas F. Bemis of Estherville to Miss Addie Tone of Spirit Lake. Rev. F. J. McCaffree officiating.

Mr. Bemis is one of Esthervilles estimable young men, has lived there all of his life except two years. He is a tinner by trade. We believe he possesss the necessary qualifications to make a good husband. We hear say in speaking of the sentiments of certain persons "I like that persons sentiments, it has the right ring." We have not learned what reputation Mr. Bemis has at home as a singer but he seems to have had no difficulty in striking the right Tone when he came to Spirit Lake as the above announcement will assure you.

"Some people are said to be wedded to their money, some to their books, others to their music. This young man is to be congratulated on the fact that he is wedded to his Tone. Miss Addie Tone, one of Eve's fair daughter's, who has lived in Spirit Lake for the last five or six years and has the esteem of many griends and as we have already said she is the right Tone to make a good wife, and we congratulate Mr. Bemis on his good fortune. We believe the young couple intend to make their home in Estherville. The Journal makes its bow and wishes them much happiness and prosperity."

Mr. and Mrs. Bemis came to Clear Lake about 9 years ago and Mr. Bemis has operated the Clear Lake Metal shop during those years. Previous to that they had lived in large cities after leaving Estherville, seven years having been spent in Minneapolis and seven at Denver.

Mr. and Mrs. Bemis have spend 50 happy years together and are held in high esteem by all who know them. They have many frieds in the different places they have lived and many greeting and congratulations cards were received by them on their golden wedding day.

Mrs. Bemis who had been in very poor health because of neuritis and rheumatism, went on April 27, 1932 to Mis(s)oula Mont., to visit a daughter in hopes the change of climate would help her, which it did. About a month ago she returned to her home here feeling the best she had in years.

Mr. and Mrs. Bemis have three children: two daughters and a son, all of whom are married. The daughters are Jennie Downs Rocky Reef Resort, Milac, Minn.; Valeria Wagoner, Mis(s)oula, Mont; the son is Frank Bemis of Minneapolis. They also have seven grandchildren.
