Certificate 542, 884.
Pensioned from July 21, 1890 at $8/mo for loss of sight of right eye.
Increase rejected Mar 22, 1900. Original declaration, act of June 27th 1890, filed July 21, 1890 claiming deafness of both ears and disease of kidneys.

2. Letter from M. E. Wildman, Box 84, Chidester, Arkansas, May 4, 1928, inquiring about whether she was entitled to her brother's pension. She said she was 92, and was born Mar 14, 1836. She was informed that her brother left a widow and there is no law under which she could collect a pension.

4. Original Declaration for Invalid Pension

Silas was in Lincoln Township, Harrison MO. He had lived in Keystone PO, Jackson, Ohio after leaving service until 1874, then to Harrison Co. MO with PO of Ringgold City, Ringgold Co. Iowa where is he now. Attorney is George W. Carnes, witnesses are G. A. Kinblade and D. C. Currie(?).

He was in the New House of Refuge General Hospital in St. Louis from No 22, 1861 to Nov. 27, 1861. He was in City General Hospital in St. Louis from Dec 21, 1861 to Jan 21, 1862.

6. Application for Pension filed on July 8, 1890, under act of June 27, 1890.

7. Declaration for Increase of an Invalid Pension filed April 30, 1891 from Lincoln Twp, Harrison Co, MO. He claims he had suffered loss of hearing in both ears during the bombardment of New Madrid, MO on May 9, 1862 (he's unsure about date). It was the firing of gun boats and 64 pound artillery that caused the concussions. His prior disability, loss of right eye, was caused in about 1883 when he was pounding a hoop onto a barrel.

8. Claim for increase in pension (due to deafness in both ears) filed July 5, 1894.

9. Declaration for Increase of Pension, filed June 30, 1900 from Eldorado Springs, Cedar, MO. Claim rejected.

He was ordered to appear for a medical exam to Nevada, Vernon, MO; he asked to be re-assigned to someplace closer (like Eldorado Springs); failed to appear at Nevada. The postmaster of Eldorado wrote a letter on Silas' behalf asking that he be reassigned to a closer location, as he was old and it was hard to travel.

11. Declaration for the Increase of an Invalid Pension filed 24 March 1904 from Eldorado Springs. Claiming deafness, rheumatism and partial paralysis of legs. Ask that he be assigned to Eldorado Springs for examination. Claim rejected.

12. Increase in Invalid Pension approved, to $10/mo, from October 3, 1906. Loss of sight in right eye, rheumatism, and senile disability.

13. Application for pension under Act of Feb 6, 1907 filed on Feb 23, 1907. Pension set at $12.

14. Declaration for Pension, filed 27 March 1911, claiming he reached 70 years of age. Rejected because there was no proof of his age. Julia was informed of this on Aug 12, 1912 (after Silas' death). Contained in the file here there is a small slip of paper with a note that looks like "applicants father is member of bd Eldorado Springs, Mo".

15. Declaration of a Widow for Original Pension.

Filed 10 June 1912 from Eldorado Springs, MO, age stated as 64 years old. Includes affidavit signed by Sara E Graham and Nathan Graham attesting that they were present when Julia and Silas were married. Sarah and Nathan were in Mercer County, Mo. Also includes an affidavit from Rebecca Claar and G. W. Claar (in Jackson Co, Ohio), attesting they were at the marriage, too. Julia filed an affidavit saying she was born on July 10, 1846, according to her family bible. A certified copy of a marriage record was made June 13, 1912, and submitted to the pension office. Pension approved at $19.

Letter from an attorney asking that Julia's pension be increased because she was 70 years old sent Sept 14, 1916. Pension Bureau asked for proof, the family bible. Bible mailed to them and returned to Julia. Also includes a letter from Josephine Kincaid, her sister, attesting to her birth date, but this wasn't accepted. Josephine seems to be Mrs. J. Sullivan.

Notes for Julia Ann Kincaid:
Obituary:

Mrs. Julia N. Graham was born in Jackson Co., Ohio on July 10, 1846, and died at her home in El Dorado Springs, Mo. on January 19, 1932, having arrived at the age of 85 yrs, 6 mo's, and 19 days. She was united in Holy Matrimony with Mr. Silas Graham in the year 1864, and to this union were born eleven children, of which five preceded her in death. Of the six children surviving there are three boys and three girls, namely: John James Graham of Missoula, Mont., Mrs. Francis Smith of Kearney, Neb., Mrs. Grace Mosbarger of Chicago, Mrs. Louisa Smith of Chicago, Albert Graham of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Alfred Graham of El Dorado Springs. Her husband preceded her in death about nineteen years ago.

She united with the Christian church in her youth, and in 189_, while in Harrison Co., Mo., she united with the Evangelical church, and on February S1, 189_, she united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which she remained a loyal and faithful member until the end. She occupied her accustomed place in church on Sunday morning before her passing at Tuesday noon following. In addition to being a loyal and faithful church member, she was a good citizen, a kind and considerate friend to many, and a good neighbor. Because of what she was, and the life she lived in this community for these many years, a host of friends will long hold her memory dear, as well as the above named children, forty-one grandchildren, fifty five great grand children, and other relatives. Funeral services were held in the local Methodist Episcopal church, Thursday afternoon January 21, 1932 and conducted by Rev. A. B. Schowengerdt speaking on the text: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7., which she herself had requested be used at her funeral. Truly these words were very appropriate and justly applicable to her. Miss Phyllis M. Schowengerdt sang the following hymns as request numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Ed Gettys at the piano, namely: "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Shall we gather at the River," "Is My Name Written There" and "Meet Me There." Burial was in the city Cemetery.
