Notes for Paloma Glee Graham: Obituary: Paloma G. Dahlstrom Paloma G. Dahlstrom, 85, of Missoula, died of natural causes Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born June 17, 1899, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to John J. and Lizzie Graham. She moved to eastern Montana in 1909. She married John E. "Mike" Dahlstrom on March 12, 1917, in Malta. The couple lived in Eugene, Ore., for three years before moving to Missoula in 1921. During World War II, Mrs. Dahlstrom was employed as a cook at the University of Montana and also prepared meals for Italian prisoners of war who were housed at Fort Missoula. She later was employed as a cook for the old Pine View Hospital in the Rattlesnake Valley and for the ATO House at UM. She then managed the Missoula Mercantile Lunch Room for several years. Mrs. Dahlstrom was the first Four-Star Navy Mother in Montana. She was a member of Immanuel Chapter 54 Order of Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church. She was prededed in death for her husband on April 2, 1983. Two sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death. Survivors include four sons, Earl Dahlstrom, Lewistown; Neil Dahlstrom, Stanley Dahlstrom and Charles Dahlstrom, all of Missoula; a brother, Coyne Graham, Corvallis, Ore.; three sisters, Jennie Coon, Corvallis, Ore.; Ruth Sol, Missoula; and Marguerite Gonsior, Milltown; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be a 3 p.m. Friday at Squire Simmons & Carr Funeral Home. The Rev. Hugh Herbert and the Rev. William Kliber will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Earl Dahlstrom, Neil Dahlstrom, Stan Dahlstrom, Chuck Dahlstrom, Neil Dahlstrom, Jr. and Steven Dahlstrom. Notes for Johan Hjalmer Dahlstrom: Obituary: John E. Dahlstrom, April 2, 1983 John E. "Mike" Dahlstrom, 88, of Missoula, died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1895, at Torsaker, Sweden, to John A. and Emma Dahlstrom. He came with his family to the United States at the age of 8, settling first in Chicago and then in Michigan. He later moved to Dodson, Mont., and homesteaded in the Malta area. On March 12, 1917, he married Paloma Graham at Dodson. The couple moved to Missoula in the early 1920s and then lived in Eugene, Ore. for about a year. They returned to Missoula where Mr. Dahlstrom was employed as an automobile mechanic at various shops in Missoula for many years. He and his son, Stanley, operated their own auto mechanics business for a few years before Mr. Dahlstrom's retirement in 1960. Following his retirement, he was caretaker of the Masonic Temple for many years. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and Algeria Temple of Shrine, a past master of Missoula Lodge 13 AF & AM, a past patron of Immanuel Chapter 54 Order of Eastern Star, a past high priest of Western Sun Chapter 11 Royal Arch Masons, a past commander of St. Omer Commandry 9 Knights Templar and a member of the York Rites Bodies. Survivors include his wife, Paloma Dahlstrom, Missoula; four sons, Earl Dahlstrom, Lewistown; J. Neil Dahlstrom, Stanley Dahlstrom and Charles Dahlstrom, all of Missoula; a sister, Agnes Burke, Clearwater, Fla.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many relatives in Sweden. She was born Sept. 28, 1906, in Bethany, Mo. In 1909 her family moved to Montana and homesteaded near Dodson. In 1919 they moved to Corvallis, Ore., and in 1921 came to Missoula. Ruth married Joe A. Sol in 1923. They settled on the family farm in Grass Valley, west of Missoula, two years later. In 1965 they retired from farming and purchased a home in Target Range. Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, her husband Joe A. and her son John Sol of Chandler, Okla. She is survived by her daughter Betty Weston of Eugene, Ore.; daughter-in-law Lois Sol of Chandler; son Joe R. and wife Jeanne Sol of Thompson Falls; son Mark of Alberton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A private family graveside service will be held followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on South Avenue. The family suggests memorials to the Meals on Wheels program of Missoula Aging Services. Sunset Memorial Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. |
