Eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Read at the funeral of Faye Pearl Wagoner Cooley: Faye Wagoner Cooley was born in Agra, Phillips, Kansas. Her father died in 1901. She moved to the Sherman County, Kansas area in 1905 when her mother remarried John Mercer. She grew to womanhood there and met and married Guy Cooley. She and her husband farmed, living in a soddy on the prairie near Edson, Kansas. When her husband was severely injured she worked at various jobs to keep the family together. In the early 30's it was determined that she needed to have surgery to repair damage from a previous surgery. While she was in the hospital her husband was placed in the Home for the Feeble Minded in Larned, Kansas and died there several days later. Faye moved her family back to the Agra area where her mother was living. She got a job in Hollenberg, Kansas as a telephone operator. In those days you needed to call the operator to make even a local call. She also baked bread, tailor made clothing for people and took in washings and ironings to support her family during the depression. She frequently took in other members of her family and at other times had to rely upon family and friends to help with the raising of her children. Her son Gerald entered the United States Army before World War II. He sent his mother money and she used a portion of that to put her other son Alan through electrician's school in California. After the war, Alan worked at Ft. Riley Army Base in Manhattan, Kansas. His mother lived with him and he provided a home for her during most of his adult life. In the late 60's Faye needed closer care. In lieu of the nursing home environment her children moved her into a small home next door to her daughter, Miriam Cooley Funke in Blue Rapids, Kansas. She lived there until her death in 1970. Facts regarding Faye Wagoner Cooley's life compiled from oral facts supplied by her children.

Occupation: Faye worked at several jobs to support her family during the time of her husband's illness and after his death. She was employed at the local grocery store in the Brewster area. After her husband's death she worked in Hollenberg, Kansas until the early 1940's as a telephone operator.
