"He was descended in the seventh generation from John Hazeltine, who landed in Salem, Mass. in 1637. His great grandmother was Elizabeth Rawson a direct descendant in the third generation from Secty. Edward Rawson, the first secretary of the Mass. Bay. Daniel Hazeltine moved to Jamestown, N.Y. in 1816 , and become the pioneer manufacturer of textile fabrics in Western N.Y. He was a man greatly respected and of high character."
