Descendants of Joseph Bemis

1805. John Daniel7 Bemis (Luther6, Daniel5, John4, John3, John2, Joseph1)9232 was born 28 Sep 1827 in Sherborn, Middlesex, Massachusetts9233, and died 02 Sep 1915 in Holliston, Middlesex, Massachusetts9234. He married Mary Ann Rose9235 18 Apr 1847 in Waltham, Middlesex, Massachusetts9236, daughter of Alexander Rose and Ellen. She was born 22 Apr 1822 in Liverpool, England9237,9238, and died 12 Jul 1887 in Sherborn, Middlesex, Massachusetts9238.

Notes for John Daniel Bemis:
[Received from David Bemis]

Mary, Ann, his wife was born July 22, 1822 in Liverpool, England, who died July 12, 1887 in Sherborn, MA at age 64 of a weak heart and malarial fever. Her parents: father, Alexander, mother Ellen F; Rose, residence, Liverpool England. F. E. Hooker Undertaker, attending physician, Blanchard, MD
John, at Mary Ann's death, purchased eight plots in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Sherborn, MA, (GR2) and buried his wife in one of the plots.
On September 2, 1915 John dies and was also buried there. I spoke with Chucky Blaney, Graves Registrar for Sherborn and she said that John purchased a total of 8 lots, 6 of which are unused and available to the Bemis family descendants. John had 6 children and apparently the lots were for them. None of them ever used the lots. The lot is # 96
In 1910, John D, is a widower at age 82, He lives as a border, at the Stewart's residence at # 56 Central Street, Holliston, MA.
Both John D. and Mary A are buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery "GR2" Sherborn, MA. Visited the grave on March 12, 2001, stone looked new.
John was a shoemaker, which is a cordwainer and probably made boots, as did his son John F. Bemis. The boots may have been for the slave trade in the South.
John joined the Union Army, (Massachusetts Infantry) Company K, 33 Regiment, with the rank of Private. He joined the Army in 1862 for a 3 year man (term), but was discharged on 27, 1863 for expiration of term of service. His regiment was part of the Army of the Potomac and Cumberland's. He apparently contracted dysentery while in the Army. John also had a Civil War Pension certificate # 38592, applicant # 60062, K 33, Massachusetts Infantry. On June 27 1886 applied for state aid due to this condition. His physician was Dr. Albert H. Blanchard of Sherborn, MA. Note, Loralyn Bemis, a GGGG granddaughter joined the Army and is in the 33 Regiment, the same regiment as John.
