ROBERT WATSON POMEROY, B.A., LL.B., of New York City, elected a Pilgrim Tercentenary member 2 September 1920, was born at Auburn, N. Y., 28 February 1868, the son of Hon. Theodore Medad and Elizabeth Leitch (Watson) Pomeroy, and died in New York City 17 April 1935.

He was a descendant of Eltweed(1) Pomeroy, who was baptized at Beaminster, co. Dorset, England, 4 July 1585, son of Richard Pomeroy, married secondly at Crewkerne, co. Somerset, England, 7 May 1629, Margery Rockett, emigrated to New England in 1630 and settled at Dorchester, where he was made a freeman 4 March 1632 and served as selectman, but moved in 1636/7 to Windsor, Conn., and died at Northampton, Mass., in March 1673, where he had gone to live with his son, Medad Pomeroy, through Caleb(2) of Northampton, a soldier in the Falls Fight 19 May 1676, who was baptized at Windsor 6 March 1641, and died in 1691, whose wife was Hepzibah Baker, Eldad(3), 1679-1760, of Northampton, who married Sarah Wait, Ebenezer(4), 1715-1766, of Southampton, Mass., whose wife was Rachel Searle, Timothy(5), 1750-1792, a corporal in the Revolutionary War, whose second wife was Anna Bush, Rev. Medad(6), 1792-1867, teacher, minister at Cayuga Bridge, Eldridge, Wellsbury, and Otisco, N. Y., who married Lilly Maxwell, and Hon. Theodore Medad(7) of Auburn, N. Y., his father, A.B. (Hamilton, 184), A. M. (ib., 1845), LL.D. (ib., 1892), lawyer, city clerk, mayor, district attorney, member of the State Assembly and the State Senate, Representative in Congress, 4 March 1861-3 March 1869, Speaker of the House, 3 March 1869, banker, first vice president of the American Express Company, trustee of Hamilton College, 1886-1905, who was born at Cayuga, N. Y., 31 December 1824, married in 1855 Elizabeth Leitch Watson (born at Auburn 20 March 1834, died 25 February 1892, daughter of Robert Standard and Margaret (Williams) Watson), and died at Auburn 25 March 1905.

He attended public schools and entered Yale College where he was graduated in 1891 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He then studied law at the Harvard Law School and received the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1895.

For two years he studied law in the office of Rogers, Locke & Milburn at Buffalo, N. Y., and then opened an office of his own.

He was a director of the Niagara Falls Power Company, the Western New York Water Company, the Buffalo General Electric Company, the International Railway Company, the Shredded Wheat Company, the Buffalo Abstract-Title Company, the Casualty Company of America, the Peoples Bank of Buffalo, and the Eastern Oil Company; and was a trustee of the Fidelity Trust Company of Buffalo, the Buffalo General Hospital, the Charity Organization Society of Buffalo, the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, the Mt. Hermon School, Hamilton College, and the First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo. He was also part owner of the Buffalo Silver Mine at Cobalt, Ontario.

Among his clubs were the University, the Yale, the Saturn, the Ellicott, and the Buffalo Country Clubs.

He married at Cambridge, Mass., 24 June 1895, Lucy Bemis, daughter of Jonathan Wheeler and Lucy (Wyeth) Bemis, who, with two children, Mrs. Lucy (Pomeroy) Dean of Camden, S. C., and Robert Watson Pomeroy, Ph.B. (Yale, 1924), of New York CIty, survives him.
