Notes for George Simpson Carter: [Received from Sherry Martin] Tombstone: Little George's tombstone lies flat on the ground in the Bemis family plot alon g side his two small aunties who preceded him in death by only weeks. The stone is similar i n style to the one for the young girls. The inscription says, " George R/son of/WW & LA Cart er/died Apr 8, 1863/E. 4 years, 8 months, 21 days" Below is the quote, "Dear George thou has left us /Thy loss is deply [yes--spelled with only one 'e'] felt/But 'tis God that hath/Befeft us/H e can all our sorrow heal." In the posession of John Weger, Elroy Wi are b oth the deed to this lot as well as a record for payment of $30 received from Mrs. W.M. Searl es for perpetual care of the lot dated 28 Jun 1945. The deed is signed by President C.F. Mutc h, Treasurer Luella Kilmer and Secretary Paul H. Steffen in the presence of witnesses W. B. M illler and L.H. Stahler and notarized by W.B. Miller. Along with the cemetery and perpetual care deeds is a business card from Sparta Marble Works , J.0. Brooks, Proprietor--the address being Main St., First Door West of Engine House, Spart a Wis. |
