Mrs. Luther Guiteau Turner (Mary Louise Stearns), of Torrington, Conn., elected a life member 5 January 1926, was born at Eastport, Maine, 3 July 1850, the daughter of John Green and Jane Mabie (Bell) Stearns, and died at Torrington 10 March 1932.

She was descended from Isaac Stearns(1), who sailed to New England in 1630 from Yarmouth, England, on the Arabella, settled at Watertown, where he was made a freeman 18 May 1631, served as selectman, and died 19 June 1671, whose wife was Mary Barker, through Samuel(2), 1638-1683, of Watertown, a soldier in King Philip's War, who married Hannah Manning, Isaac(3), 1674-1737 of Watertown, whose wife was Mary Bemis, Isaac(4), 1710-1779, of Watertown and Waltham, Mass., deacon, selectman, assessor, a member of the militia, who married Elizabeth Child, Silas(5), 1734-1804, of Waltham, a soldier in Capt. Seth Blodgett's company on its march to Springfield in 1757, whose wife was Elizabeth Wellington, Elijah Wellington(6), 1781-1872, deacon, cabinetmaker, who married Mary Osgood Green, and John Green of Eastport, Lubec, and Calais, Maine, and Brooklyn, N. Y., her father, who was born at Lubec, 11 October 1818, married Jane Mabie Bell (born at Eastport 28 May 1819, died in New York City 16 February 1892, the daughter of Philip Yeaton and Elizabeth R. (Wade) Bell), and died at Torrington 12 June 1905.

She attended the private school of George Brackett in Brooklyn.

She was married 1 October 1885, to Luther Guiteau Turner, president of Turner & Seymour Manufacturing Company, who was born at New London, Conn., 8 June 1845 and died at Southern Pines, N. C., 27 March 1924, son of Peter Comstock and Mary Ann (Mason) Turner.

Mrs. Turner was a member of the Connecticut Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Torrington Women's Club.

Three children, Marjorie Stearns Turner, A. B. (Vassar, 1910), of Torrington, Mrs. Wadsworth Doster (Alice Mason Turner) of Watertown, Conn., and Mason Turner, B. A. (Williams, 1916, as of 1915), American Consul at Santa Cruz de Teneriffe, Canary Islands, survive her.
