October 5, 1901--
"Joined the Great Majority-
Wm. Bemis, pioneer resident of Dodge County, died at his home in Ellington, Saturday October 5, aged eighty years, five months and four days.
Deceased was a native of Vermont. While he was yet a child, his parents moved to Jefferson County, N.Y. where he grew to mankind. In '46 he was married to Elizabeth Stedman od Rochester, N.Y. Shortly after they moved to Cincinnati, where for several years he worked at his trade, that of a house carpenter. Coming west in a successful effort to regain lost health he settled in 1858, on a farm in Ellington, where he has ever since resided.
To them have been born ten children. His widow, (after fifty-five years od weddwd life) and eight children survive him. Deceased was a brother to Jason Bemis, of Owatonna, and uncle to Fred Bemis, of Walcott.
Funeral was held from the late residence, October 8, Rev. McMinis conducting the services. Interment was in Concord Cemetery.

"Bemus Services Held On Last Wednesday
Funeral services for Alva A. Bemis, who died July 9 at St. Lucas hospital were held last Wednesday at the Lenmark Funeral Home. Mr. Bemis was born and raised in Minnesota and for the past 25 years has lived in and around Faribault. At the time of his death he was employed at the Irvine Wolf farm. Mr. Bemis possessed a good Christian character and was a devoted Methodist. He was the youngest of a family of ten children, three sisters and one brother preceeding him in death. Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Edward Gordon of Estevan, Saskatchewan, and Mrs. George Snyder of Manly, Iowa, and three brothers, Vernon of Deer Creek, Minn., Frank of Plummer, Minn., and Henry of Nye, Wis. He was laid to rest by the side of his father and mother at West Concord, Minn."
