In company with his brother, Lewis D. White, he manufactured pails, tubs, churns and etc., in Whitefield, N. H. Enlisted in the war against the Rebellion, 1862, in Company I, Third N. H. Regiment; was corporal and sharp shooter; wounded May 13, 1864, in the battle of Drurys Bluffs, sent to Moore Hospital, Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Pa.; d. in the triumph of faith, June 26, 1864. He was a faithful soldier, member of the Free Baptist Church, loved and highly respected. Sir John Bowland sent word and $20 to his wife to come at once, and she was with the dying patriot the last few days. After he died Mr. Bowland furnished a $60 coffin and $40 for expenses home. The Whitefield soldiers organized a G. A. R. Post and named it Almon B. White Post in his honor. He was m. by Rev. H. M. Danforth, May 5, 1844, to Elizabeth Susannah Elwell, b. in Belchertown, Mass., Oct. 1, 1826. She was the first president of the Ladies Relief Corps, auxiliary to the G. A. R. Post, and is still a member. She m. second, Nov. 4, 1872, Warren Hale Newell, b. in Winslow, Me., Apr. 17, 1839, a lumberman in Whitefield. He enlisted in the war against the Rebellioon at Bangor, as corporal in the 17th Me. Regiment of heavy artillery...

[Hist. of Marlborough, NH:689] He removed to the West about 1856. In the time of the Rebellion, he enlisted in the 5th Ohio Vol. Infantry, serving as fife-major, scout, and hospital steward during the first three years. He participated in the battles of Winchester, Port, Republic, Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, Mission Ridge, and Atlanta, and went through the grand campaign of Savannah and North and South Carolina with Gen. Sherman. He re-enlisted in the field at Bridgeport, Ala., as veteran volunteer, in the same regiment, and was with the troops when Gen. Johnson surrendered. He was mustered out of service July 26, 1865, having been more than four years in the service of his country. He is now a jeweller in Oshkosh, Wis.
