By the time he was seventeen, he was working in Waterloo, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, on the Edward Crump farm. His brother Norman F. Bemis and wife, Augusta, were also working there.

4 July 1873, Loren married Adelia Austin, daughter of William and Rachel Austin, in Jefferson, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. Adelia was a seamstress.

8 August 1874, Loren and Theresia were married. Theresia was the daughter of Ferdinand and Theresia Kepaun. 5 November 1874, their son Dayton died, at the age of eight months.

"Mrs. Martha M. Grant died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. H. Stedman, in this city, Monday morning, Jan. 7, at 9 a.m. Mrs. Grant came to this city about Christmas to pay her daughter a visit and was taked with typhoid malaria, and being aged, her strength was not sufficient to carry her through the malady. Mrs. Grant was born in Malone, New York, in the year 1822, consequently she lacked but two years of reaching her three score and ten when Death called her hence. She moved to Estherville some twenty years ago and has made that city her home ever since. The funeral took place at the home of Mrs. Stedman, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. Case, of the Congregational church. The remains were not interred until after the arrival of the evening train, being so held to give a son who was coming on the train an opportunity of being at the funeral of his mother.
The relatives of the deceased from a distance who were present at the funeral obsequies were E. B. Grant, of Fairmont, Minn., and Mrs. E. S. Wells, of Estherville, children of the deceased: S. E. Bemis, of Estherville, and D. M. ? . Bemis, of Waucoma, brothers of the deceased." [Palo Alto Reporter: January 11, 1895]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs. Martha M. Grant died at Emmetsburg on the morning of Jan. 7, 1895, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. P.H. Stedman. This aged and honored lady who had made her home in Estherville for several years past, went to Emmetsburg a few weeks ago to make her daughter a visit. On the Friday preceding New Years she was taken ill with what seemed a bad cold which later took on the form of typhoid malaria from which she died this week at the age of sixty-eight. Two daughters, Mrs. E.S. Wells and Mrs. Chas. Perry reside in Estherville. [Taken from Northern Vindicator: January 10, 1895]

Eben (Ebenezer) was definitely the spouse of Delphene. I have copy of marriage info from Minnesota. I also have Eben's pension request info from the National Archives. The info is all on 8 1/2 x 14 paper and some isn't very legible because it's handwritten. If anyone doesn't have this info and would like a copy I can send via regular mail -- please send me your mailing address. It is about 11 pages.

The 1850 Malone census lists Ebenezer B (3 yrs) with Martha and George. Also listed is Roxana (6 yrs) [Does anyone know what happened to Roxanna -- is she listed in the 1890 census?] I don't think I have the 1860 census with the Grant's listed. I then show Eben, 23 yrs (Ebin) with Delphene in East Chain Lakes, MN 1870 census.

I don't know where the Edward came from in the 1860 Malone census. I don't have any info that shows there is an Edward in the family. I think it must be a census error -- was he 13 yrs old?
