"SAD. News by telegram to Mr. O. F. Wallihan [Samuel's brother, Orlando], of Footville, and also by postal card Saturday, to Mr. Jerome Bemis, of this place, conveyed the sad news of the accidental shooting and death of Mrs. Maria, wife of Dr. Wallihan, of Colorado, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Bemis, formerly of Evansville. No intelligence as to the cause that led to the accident. The accident occurred in the mountains, some distance from home. The news brings deep sorrow to the many friends of the deceased, both at this place and at Footville, the former residence of both parties."
