About Our Family Research

This research is primarily about the ancestors and descendents of John Dudley Pyeatt. His Pyeatt ancestry traces back to Rene Piatt who came to America from France in the 1600s. Family Photos
  • William Henry Pyeatt (23 KB)
This is a photo of my great grandfather, William Henry "Billy" Pyeatt, son of John Henry Pyeatt and father of John Dudley Pyeatt. Picture most likely taken around Amarillo, Texas in late 1930s. William Henry Pyeatt was born in 1852 and died in 1941.
  • William H Pyeatt Family 1896 (32 KB)
This is William H. "Billy" and Lucetta Ann "Johnnie" Gatewood Pyeatt and children in late summer or fall of 1896. The baby is James Clarence Pyeatt (b. Oct. 8, 1895). William Henry Pyeatt Jr., the child just older than James Clarence, died about a year earlier around his 2nd birthday in October 1895, and Finis Ewing Pyeat was not yet born. This description of those in the photo accounts for all living children at that time, and supports my interpretation of the ages of the children in the picture. Chester Arthur - b. Nov. 26, 1883 (12 in picture, a few months shy of 13) Maude Lena - b. Feb. 11, 1885 (about 11 and a half) Mary Alice Pyeatt - b. Mar. 8, 1887 or 1888 (about 8 or 9) John Dudley - b. Sep. 22, 1889 (about 7) Robert Edward - b. Sep 24, 1891 (about 5) James Clarence - b. Oct. 8, 1895 (about 1)
  • Wm H Pyeatt and children in Sep 1937 (17 KB)
Not all living children are in this photo. Occasion of photo is not known, but could have been as simple as Alice Pyeatt Sweeney visiting from NY. Picture was taken in Texas, probably near Amarillo. L-R Robert Edward Pyeatt, Mary Alice Pyeatt Sweeney, Chester Arthur Pyeatt, William H "Billy" Pyeatt, Maude Lena Pyeatt Colquitt (in background), John Dudley Pyeatt. Children missing are James Clarence Pyeatt and Finis Ewing Pyeatt.
  • Pyeatt Family circa 1887 (75 KB)
William Henry "Billy" Pyeatt (younger of the two men), Lucetta Ann "Johnnie" Gatewood Pyeatt, Maude Lena Pyeatt (age 2), and John Henry Pyeatt (best guess).
  • Grandpa Fewell (76 KB)
The handwritten words 'Grandpa Fewell', are written on the back of this photo. I am not sure whether this is William Albert Fewell (1863-1911), or his father William Henry Fewell (1838-1931). The man in the photo appears to be too old to be William Albert Fewell, who died before my mother, Mary Lou Pyeatt Daniel (1914-1988) was born, and my mother could have known her great grandfather Fewell as 'Grandpa Fewell', since that is what her mother, Eula Fewell Pyeatt (1895-1944), would likely have called him. It is not clear whether the handwriting on the back of the photo is that of Mary Lou Pyeatt Daniel, or Eula Fewell Pyeatt.
  • Mary Lou Pyeatt's Wedding - May 9, 1942 (22 KB)
This is the John Dudley Pyeatt family at the wedding of Mary Lou Pyeatt and Emitt Daniel on May 9, 1942 in Jal, New Mexico. The only child of John Dudley and Eula Fewell Pyeatt missing from the photo is Johnnie Pyeatt Lytle. The photo includes three in-laws: Emitt Daniel, standing behind Mary Lou Pyeatt (wearing corsage); Katie Cooper Pyeatt (holding youngest son, Bob, wife of John Bob Pyeatt; and Alice Hill Pyeatt, wife of R.O. "Billy" Pyeatt (standing next to Mary Lou Pyeatt Daniel). Three grandchildren are also present in photo: Bob Pyeatt, mentioned above; Lawrence Pyeatt (boy at left of three boys); Melvin Pyeatt (boy at right of three boys). Lawrence and Melvin are brothers to Bob Pyeatt. The boy in the middle is David Leon Pyeatt, youngest child of John Dudley and Eula Fewell Pyeatt.
