Notes for ANTOINE BOUTIN:
As a soldier in the king's army, Antoine was sent to New France (now Québec) sometime after 1661 and received a small piece of land near the St. Charles River from the governor of Québec. In 1664, he was stationed at Château St. Louis in Québec and was a drummer in the garrison there.
Antoine and his wife received a piece of land on the coast of St. François-Xavier near Sillery from her father as a wedding gift. On March 20, 1667, the young family contracted to use a larger parcel of land along the St. Lawrence River in the seigneury of Dombourg, now Neuville. In 1672, Antoine's landlord revised the land contract with more restrictive conditions that many, including Antoine, refused to agree to. The ensuing lawsuit lasted until 1678, but Antoine escaped judgment by passing away in 1676 at the age of 34.
