Notes for R
OMIE HALL PEARSON:
Rom, as he was called, left home while still a young boy. His parents were dead by the time Rom was 17 years old. For a time Rom followed his older brothers and worked at whatver they were doing. Rom, in comparison to the modern day and times, had very little education, only two school terms (two school terms of two months each). But in spite of no education Rom had the ability to learn and get ahead in whatever he set his mind to. he began in the furniture manufacturing business while still very young. Rom began with a plant, the E. Barnhart Company in Lenoir, N.C., and from that time he was able to progress up the ladder in the business. When his health failed, he was force to retire from this particular line of work to something that would not be so strenuous on his heart. during this time he had gone from a mere work hand to being the plant superintendent. Because of this he was moved from one locale to another taking his family with him. At his retirement he was with the Drexel Firm in Morganton, NC. After retirement, the family moved to North Wilkesboro, NC where Rom became associated with his brothers, Isaac Everette and Riley Hampton in the wholesale grocery business. Eventually, realizing his own sons might wish to go into business with him, Rom sold his interest in his brothers firm to establish a firm of his own. Rom and two of his sons, Harry Hall and William Clyde, were in business together later.
