Notes for HENRY PLANTAGENET:
Henry was King Henry III of England. He acceded the throne on October 28, 1216 at Gloucester Cathedral. He reigned from 1216 to 1272 at his death. He was a minor when he took the throne. He did not take the reins of Government himself until 1234. Baronian discontent simmered, boiling over in 1258 when Henry, facing financial disaster, attempted to raise large sums from his magnates. Reforms were agreed upon but then renounced by Henry. Simon de Montfort leased a rebellion against the King, (The Baron Wars) which was defeated after initial success, thereafter Henry ceeded much of his power to his son. Burke says he was born Oct 10, 1206 and married January 14; and crowned in 1216. He waged wasteful wars and had an extravagant reign, and was an ineffectual leader
