30. JOAN25 PLANTAGENET (EDMUND24, EDWARD "LONGSHANKS"23, HENRY22, JOHN "LACKLAND"21, HENRY ANJOU "CURTMANTLE"20, GEOFFREY "LE BON"19, FULK18V, "LE JEUNE" PLANTAGENET, FULK IV "RECHIN"17 PLANTAGENET, GEOFFREY "FERREOL"16 GATINOIS, GEOFFROY "FERREOL"15 GASTINOIS, AUBRI14 GATINOIS, GEOFFREY "FERREOL"13, AUBRI12, GEOFFREY11, AUBRI "DUX"10, GEOFFREY9, BOUCHARD8 DE FEZENSAC, AUBRI "THE BERGUNDIAN"7, BOUCHARD "THE CONSTABLE"6 CORSICA, GUERIN "ROBERT"5 THURGOVIE, ROBERT4 DE HESBAYE, LAMBERT3, GUERIN WARIN2 POITIERS, BODILON1) was born September 27, 1328 in Woodstock, Kent, England, and died August 08, 1385 in Wallingford, Berkshire, England. She married THOMAS DE HOLLAND 1346, son of ROBERT DE HOLLAND and MAUD LA ZOUCHE. He was born 1314 in Upholand, Lancashire, England, and died December 26, 1360 in Normandie, France.

Notes for JOAN PLANTAGENET:
She was known as "Joan, the fair maid of Kent" Plantagenet. Joan was Countess od Kent and Princess of England. She became Countess of Kent in her own right after the death of her brother, but the title of Countess of Salisbury is dubious at best. She married Sir Thomas Holland clandestinely at the age of twelve and as an adult, had two children by him. But when Thomas went off to Pruddia the next year, she was "married off", possibly under compulsion, to William Montagu, Earl of Salisbury, in the house of whose parents she lived. When Thomas Holland returned, he pressed a suit of nullity, and got his wife back. On November 17, 1349, the Pope ordered Joan restored to Thomas de Holland. So Joan was never legally married to Montagu, and thus never legally, Countess of Salisbury. Her marriage to the Black Prince was also clandestine, and at first, most irregular as they needed a dispensation because they were first cousins. When things got straightened out, she became the Mother of Richard II. She must have been something, leading what is probably the most fascinating life of any English women of the 14th Century. The Gossip columns would have had a field day here in the 20th and 21st century. Richard de Kam.

He was King Edward III. He assumed effective power in 1330 after imprisoning his mother and executing her lover, Roger De Mortimer who had murdered his father; thereafter his reign was dominated by military adventures. His victory in Scotland, especially at Haildon Hill, (1333) encouraged him to plan the Union of England and Scotland, (1363).
