When William Whitteker and his bride, Philena Cobb, came to settle in Charleston, Western Virginia in 1806, this cabin, built by the Ruffners was vacant. He and Philena stayed with
the David Ruffners for a few weeks until He and
Philena bought their own log house and may have
even stayed in this one. It was built by the father of David Ruffner, Joseph Ruffner, who had moved.
