59) Hamilton COX (1846-1921)
|
|

Hamilton Cox(1846-1921) was the son of John Campbell Cox(1802-1860) and Nancy Dillon Cox(1807-1879). He married Fannie Daugherty in 1870 in Athens Co., Ohio. To this union were born Anna, Nancy, Debbie, Carl Hamilton, John Vaughn and Hugh D. Cox. Rachel Hamilton, married to John Dillon, the maternal grandparents of Hamilton Cox, may have been the source of the Hamilton name, used widely as a given name for descendants of John and Rachel. Hamilton was probably born in Athens Co. and though he died in Vinton Co., was buried in the New Marshfield Cemetery a few miles to the west of Athens, Ohio. This was also the gravesite location for his parents, several siblings and cousins. The given name, Hugh, may have been taken from the father of Rachel Hamilton Dillon. The mother of Hamilton, Nancy Dillon Cox, was probably the eldest child of John and Rachel Hamilton Dillon, and the sister of Vincent Dillon Sr., who eventually resettled in Lawrence Co., Ohio, in the middle 1840s.
