John Dillon Cox (1841-1892) and his wife, Mary (1848-1918) are here buried in the New Marshfield Cemetery, Athens Co., Ohio. John was the son of John Campbell Cox and Nancy Dillon Cox, and grandson of John Dillon (c1785-c1847), who was born on the ancestral family farm in Greene Co., PA. John, Sr. later resettled to Monroe Co. before eventually moving to Windsor Twp., In Lawrence Co., Ohio, in 1846 with his son, Vincent Dillon, Sr. John Dillon Cox's ggrandfather, Peter Dillon is first located in this country with the New Jersey Militia during the American Revolution in the 1770s. John D. Cox briefly served with Co. "C" 3rd OVI during the Civil War. He is listed as a farmer for most of his life, having succumbed to heart disease at the age of 51. On the side of this gravesite are also listed Edward David Cox and John Hamilton Cox, sons of John D. and Mary J. Dillon. This family is profiled elsewhere at this site.
