30a) Hannah Elizabeth Lewis Scarberry and family

Hannah Elizabeth Lewis (1854-1928) was the daughter of Rachel Dillon (Lewis) daughter of Vincent Dillon Sr. and Hannah Jackson Dillon. She is the lady in the left front of this photo. Hannah’s husband, Noah Webster Scarberry, is on her left. Their older son (center rear) may be Wilbert or Judson. The younger boy (center rear) is probably their youngest son, Roy. The older daughter on the left is probably Leona and the daughter on the right is likely daughter Bessie. Daughter Nellie, the youngest child, is not included here. Their eldest child, son, Judson, may have been excluded as well, though we’re not entirely sure whether the older son, here pictured is Judson or Wilbert. Based on the approximate ages of the Scarberry children, we estimate this photo at c1900, in either Lawrence Co., OH or Cabell Co., WV. The 1880 census for Rome Twp., Lawrence Co., Ohio, lists this family with only the two elder sons. By 1900, this family had resettled to the Guyandotte District, Cabell Co., WV, where Hannah is listed as “Hattie” and her mother Rachel (Dillon) Lewis is shown living with this family. As Rachel’s gravesite was never located in Lawrence Co., it is possible, that following her death prior to 1910, she was buried in Cabell Co., WV.
