WILLIAM (WILHEM) H.3 SLIFE (JOHANN CHRISTOPH2 SCHLIEF, CHRISTOPH1 SCHLEIF) was born July 18, 1865 in Zakrzewke, County Flatow, Province West Prussia, Prussia, and died July 24, 1937 in Town of Newton~ Marquette County. He married ANNA LOUISE PLOETZ April 11, 1890 in St. Paul's Evangical Lutheran Church ~ Coloma, Wis. ~ Waushara County, daughter of FRANZ PLOETZ and FRIEDERICKA(OELKE)EHLKE. She was born December 09, 1868 in Mainz, Rheiland-Pfalz Lande, Germany, and died August 08, 1945 in Marquette County ~ Wisconsin.

William emigrated to the United States from Bremen, Germany, on or about May 1, 1870, and arrived in the United States, at the Port of New York, May 12, 1870, vessel's name was unknown.
At the age of six years he across to America with his parents.

OBIT:
WILLIAM SCHLEIF
William Schleif was born July 15th, 1865. in Germany. At the age of six years he came across to America and settled with his parents on a farm in Newton.
He was confirmed on the 24th day of June, 1879 at Crystal Lake church.
In the year of 1890 he was united in holy wedlock with Anna Ploetz. This union was blessed with seven children, three sons and four daughters.
He was a true Christian and a very devout member of the Lutheran church at Crystal Lake.
For the last five years he has made his home with his youngest daughter, Amanda.
He has been in ill health for the past five years and on Saturday, July 24th, at 10:45 P.M., he passed peacefully away, having attained the age of 72 years, 10 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing wife, his three sons, Julius and Rhina of Oshkosh and Walter of Richford; four daughters, Ella Graper of Coloma, Leona Martin of Newton, Ester Schwersinski and Amanda Bartel of Wautoma; three sisters, Ida Wiley and Amelia Krueger of Hancock and Hulda Jenks of Wild Rose and one brother, Julius, of Newton; 21 grandchildren and two great grand-children, besides a host of friends.
The funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27th, from St. Paul's Lutheran church at Crystal Lake the body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. A large assembly of friends and neighbors attended the services which were conducted by the Rev. Zaiser of Harrisville. Many and costly floral offerings showed the love and esteem in which the deceased was held by relatives and friends.

WAUTOMA, WIS.----- (Special) ----
Funeral services were held this afternoon for William Slife, 72, who passed away Saturday after an extended illness with tuberculosis. The services were at 1:30 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Bartel, town of Wautoma and 2:30 at the Stone church near Dakota. A Harrisville pastor was in charge and burial was in Newton cemetery where Mr. and Mrs. Slife resided until the last two or three years.

Leona Martin, age 89, of Wautoma, Wis, died Tuesday, October 10, 1989, at the Wautoma Care Center. She was born August 21, 1900, the daughter of Wilhem and Anna Ploetz Slife. She married Mr. Charley J. Martin on November 25, 1921, in the town of Crystal Lake, Marquette County. He preceded her death on July 13, 1982.
She and her husband farmed in the town of Newton, Marquette County, for many years before moving to Wautoma in 1975. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Crystal Lake.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Esther) Schwersenska, Richford; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Julius, Reinhold and Walter Slife; and two sisters, Mabel Graper and Amanda Bartel.
Funeral services were held at 11 A.M. on Friday, October 13, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, with the Rev. James Seim officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

MRS. WILLIAM BROWN

Caroline Slife was born July 14, 1869, in Germany. When only four years old she came to America with her parents who settled in the town of Newton, Marquette Co., Wis.
On January 30, 1889, she was united in marriage to Wm. Brown, of Hancock, and lived in this village until called to her eternal home on Dec 18, 1922.
The cause of her death was a stroke of paralysis on Dec. 10th and another that soon followed, after which she grew gradually weaker until the dear Lord said "Come."
To Mrs. Brown were born five children: Rino, of Omro, Julius, of Hartford, Albert, of Stevens Point, and Herman and Raymond at home. seven step- children were also given the same loving care as her own, all of whom were brought up to become honorable, useful citizens, and everyone of them will rise up and called her blessed. They are: Mrs. Ida Kramer, of Manitowoc, Emiel Brown, of Stevens Point, Billie Brown, of Beloit, Mrs. Hulda Prahl, Mrs. Emma Kusserrow, Mrs. Annie Krueger and Robert Brown, all of New London.
Besides her aged husband and children, she also leaves to mourn, her mother, Mrs. John Slife, of Newton, three sisters, Mrs. Amelia Krueger and Mrs. W. C. Wiley, of Hancock, and Mrs. Hulda Jenks, of Wild Rose, also two brothers, William and Julius Slife, of Newton, 21 grandchildren, besides other relatives and many good friends.
Mrs. Brown was of a quiet disposition and loyal to all. She was a faithful worker in the church and aid and will be greatly missed there. But most of all will be missed from the home where she nobly and well performed her part.
After a short service at the home on Dec. 21st, the remains were taken to St. Paul's Lutheran church in Coloma where funeral services were held, followed by interment in the family lot in Coloma cemetery.

She was 53 years old when she died.


Carrie had seven step-children.
