Descendants of Garrett Moore

Generation No. 2

      2. Patrick2 Moore (Garrett1) was born Dec 16, 1816 in Rathcormac, County Cork, Ireland1, and died Dec 04, 1907 in Westfield, MA1. He married Mary Ellen Daly2 Abt. 1852 in Rathcormac, County Cork, Ireland3, daughter of Michael Daly and Johanna Leahy. She was born Jan 04, 1830 in Rathcormac, County Cork, Ireland4, and died Abt. 1883 in Rathcormac, County Cork, Ireland.

Notes for Patrick Moore:
Came to Westfield, MA about 1887 per newspaper article about his death. He was 70 years old at the time he came to Westfield.

At time of death he lived with son Maurice at 10 White St. Westfield, MA. Services at St. Mary's in Westfield, MA per newspaper

He was widower at time of death at the age of 90 and was a carpenter. Died of LaGrippe per death certificate year 1907 Vol 5 page 11 no 237

Buried St. Mary cemetery Section 3 Lot 160 with sons William and Peter and grandson Thomas and his family.

Conflict on birth date Sue Moore had 1838 on her family tree?

Jack Walsh states that there were no Moore's in Rathcormac prior to 1845. Patrick Moore was supposedly born in Rathcormac in 1816. No records of parents or grandparents in records in Rathcormac.

JW Says Patrick Moore arrived in NYC April 19, 1884.

JW states that PM was a mailman in County Cork and married to Mary Hagerty in letter to Warren Dunham of 1/23/1992. Also MH was born Abt 1834 and died in 1883 at age of 49 from a stroke after 13 children. No reference to Mary Hagerty in other records. Also, who were the other two children.

This conflicts with data from JW that PM was married to Mary Daley (Daly) in his letter of 5/6/1994 to WD

I hired Paul MacCotter a Genealogist prior to my trip to Ireland

Research by Paul MacCotter 15 Whitethorn Ave., Ballincollig, Co. Cook.

A search of the Cloyne Catholic Diocesan database from1799 to 1900 which included 47parishes including Rathcormac. No records were found for the birth of Patrick and the marriage of Patrick and Mary Daly in Rathcormac. Paul MacCotter was given my records which showed the birth date but he could not verify it. He indicated that the database records are not complete as some information was never entered in the original records.

Other records found in the search for Moore's were as follows.

Marriage of Garret (Gerald) Moore to Catherine Hayes on January 1, 1844 in Castlelyons. The parish which is the parish next to Rathcormac. The witnesses were Peter and Elizabeth Hayes. He could be a brother or cousin of Patrick.

Birth of John to Garret Moore and Catherine Hayes on December 12, 1844 in Castlelyons Parish. Witnesses were Peter Hayes and Catherine Moore. He could be a cousin or brother to Patrick. She could be related also.

A search of the National Archives House Book for Rathcormac Parish of April 1849 found a Patrick Moore (Age 33) living in the gate lodge of the Kildinan House which was owned by Edward B. Roche. The gate house measured 22' long by 13' wide and 8' high.

A search of the Griffith's Valuation of 1852 (Property records and head of household on property) did not find Patrick living in Rathcormac Parish in1852 but birth records of his children were from Rathcormac Parish starting in 1853.

Two other Moore's were in the Griffith's of 1852. They were.

David Moore a tenant, 15 Dispensary Lane, Rathcormac, lived on land with a house, yard and small garden valued at 1 pound.

Michael Moore a tenant, 4 Quarter Lane, Rathcormac, lived in a dilapidated house with a garden and valued at 10 shillings.

They could be brothers or cousins of Patrick.

Paul believes that Patrick Moore is our ancestor as he is the only one of record. During my visit I went by Kildinan House and took pictures. It is very close to land that Michael Daly father of Mary lived in 1852. There were three visible buildings including the renovated main house and two large buildings.

No Moore's records were found in the "Title Applotment Book, Rathcormac Parish, Oct. 1833"
( List of inhabitants of town and owner of land. Landless labors who were in rural areas were not included.)

11/5/2000
Did not have time to look into the Valuation Records for Patrick Moore as time ran out.

Irish records says PM was married to Mary Daly based upon birth records not Mary Hagerty.

During my visit to Ireland I visited the Rathcormac Parish Church and visited with Father Neilus O'Donnell (Tel/Fax 025-36286 or cell # 086-8307064). The records which I reviewed were a compiled database of the original records which some were in Latin. These records are cross referenced for ease of use. Father O'Donnell knew how to use the books and checked possible errors in names like Moore may be Morey.

The records for the parish for Births were from 1792 to 1899 and Marriages from 1829 to 1899.
No further records are available. I believe the original records are in the possession of Father O'Donnell.

The following records were found during my visit to Rathcormac Parish Church. I do not know the relationship to our family. Could be brothers or cousins of Patrick Moore.

8/28/1845 Birth of James to David Moore and Elizabeth Spillane and witnessed by Patrick Ryan and Ellen Cosgrave.

4/23/1858 Birth of Norry (Noreen) to John Moore and Norry Leary and witnessed by John Collins and Mary Leary.

4/23/1860 Birth of Daniel to John Moore and Norry Leary and witnessed by Maurice Connel and Johanna Layne ? Birth date was reconfirmed in a letter by Father Neilus O'Donnell in August 2001.

5/31/1869 Birth of Michael to Michael Moore and Mary Daly and witnessed by Daniel Daly and Catherine O'Brien. No address in record.

August 2001
In a letter to Father O'Donnell I asked about the Christian Brothers School were all the Moore's boys were schooled in carpentry. He indicated that the school is still located in Fremoy. But it is now a Primary school and not a Secondary school. He also indicated that he attended the school also.

1/15/2002 JW received a letter from Rathcormac on April 25, 1994 about the Moore and Daly family. It stated that there were 13 children of which 11 were baptized in Rathcormac. No Moore's in Rathcormac registers prior to 1845 ( no father, grandfathers, also no Garrett's) This may indicate that Patrick moved to Rathcormac after 1845.
Also, there were 29 Mary Daly in Rathcormac between 1792 and 1899. A Mary Daly born 1834 and 12 were born between 1828 and 1840. Letter codes were 025-36258 & 088-582519
