February 2002
Traveled to Denver for business but spent my nights at the Denver Library reviewing the early death of Patrick Moore.
The headline in the Rocky Mountain News of 9/11/1902 on page 6 column 2 " Patrick J. Moore Slain by A. H. Flood"
This information was found in the Scrapbook of William Wise. (Page 281, 282, 295 and 388) Mr. Wise was a US Marshal and kept records of crimes committed in the Denver area.

The story goes like this. The daughter of Patrick was sent to the local butchery to get 50 cents of meat for that night dinner. Patrick sent her back to return it as he believed it was tainted. The butcher trimmed the meat and returned it to Patrick saying it was a good piece. Patrick then returned to the store and he and Mr. Flood got into a fight and Patrick was stabbed by Mr. Flood.

Mr. Flood was charged with murder and was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and was sentence to one year. Patrick's son Thomas who was 8 at the time testified at the trial. Mr. Flood only served 5 months and was granted an unconditional pardon from the governor. The story behind the pardon goes like this. It seams that friends of Mr. Flood approached Mrs. Annabella Moore and offered her $1000 to help support her family as she was dependant on the charity of friends and family for survival of her and her 5 children. She made an appeal for clemency for Mr. Flood and was granted by the governor.

Patrick was a carpenter and lived with his wife and five children at 1063 Knox Court in Denver. While I was there I took photos of the home and sent them and copies of the articles to Jack Walsh who is the son of Mary and grandson of Patrick.
