John Alden (son of George Alden and Jane Alden)1 was born 1599 in England, and died 22 September 1687 in Duxbury, Plymouth, MA. He married Priscilla Mullins on 12 May 1622, daughter of William Mullins and Alice Atwood.

He married Priscilla Mullins ABT 1622. (Priscilla Mullins is #712.) Priscilla was born 1601. Priscilla died BEF 22 SEP 1687 at age 86. John was a cooper or barrelmaker who was hired to keep the barrels of beer and water sound during the voyage across the Atlantic, and to help the colonists comply with the law which required any barrels removed from England to be either returned, replaced or suitable staves or raw lumber be sent back to make new barrels. England was already feeling the pinch of disappearing forests in 1820. Alden had not intended to stay in Plymouth, but was convinced by some of the smooth-talking Puritan leaders of his opportunity to improve his lot after the voyage commenced.
