Clara was saved early in her life and was a longtime member of the Fairview Methodist Church. She loved the beauties of nature and enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She especially loved visiting with people regardless of their age. She was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. The memory of a loving Christian mother and grandmother will live eternally in the hearts of all her family, neighbors and many friends. Clara died at home sitting in her chair. |

Notes for Earl Jones: Earl and Williamina made there home in Burt Co. Nebraska on farms near Craig and Oakland until in 1946 they moved to their own farm near Oakland. They retired and moved to Oakland in 1971. Information from funeral service records. Funeral services for Earl Jones were held Tuesday at the West Side United Methodist church. He died Saturday at Oakland Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years. The Rev. Olin Belt officiated at the services. Music was by Mrs. Ervin Smith, organist and Cameron Nelson and Ed J. Nelson. Active pallbearers were Bruce Anderson, Maurice Hansen, Linder Johnson, Robert Olson, James Sommerer and Wayne Sommerer. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Horn, Averill Jacobson, Myron Jacobson, Stanley C. Johnson, Harold Nelson, Roy Rutledge, Milton Uman and Glenn Wedergren. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery. Palmquist Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Earl Jones, son of Grant and Julia Jones, was born in Laclede Co., MO near Lebanon, on Nov. 26, 1900. He was baptized in the Fairview Methodist Church. Earl came to Nebraska at the age of 17 where he remained the rest of his life. He was married in 1925 to Williamina Sommerer. They farmed in Craig, Uehling and Oakland area until 1971 when they moved to Oakland. Two children were born to this union. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Roy, Lee and an infant. Survivors include his widow, Mea; daughter, Jackie Sowers and husband Kenneth of Omaha; son Leslie and wife Marge of Aberdeen, South Dakota; brother, Raymond; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Howell, Mrs. Clay (Esther) Humphreys, Mrs. Vernon (Nola) Jones, all of Lebanon, MO.; five grandchildren; Kristi, Karla, and Kurt Sowers, Cindy and Gene Jones. |

Hazel Evelen Jones, daughter of William Alfred Wright and Lillian Shamel Wright, was born November 14th 1906 at Competition Missouri and departed this life April 27, 2001, in Lebanon, MO. On October 18th, 1929, Hazel was united in marriage to Raymond Jones, and to this union were born two children. Raymond preceded her in death on September 29, 1899. She was a member of Independence Boulevard Christian Church, in Kansas City. While in her younger years she attended the Competition Baptist Church. Hazel was employed with Lewald Garment Factory, Montgomery Ward Company, and later with Lake City Arsenal Company in the Kansas City area. She and Raymond returned to the Lebanon area in October of 1970 where Hazel enjoyed working with flowers and her garden, as well as sewing and other craft work. Hazel is survived by; her daughter Dottie Spanier and her husband Bill of Lebanon, a daughter-in-law, Betty Jones of Raytown, MO, six grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Cindy, David, Dale, and Pamela, sixteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He departed this life Friday, January 9, 1998, in Breech Medical Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, two months, and three days. On November 17, 1934, he was united in marriage to Esther C. Jones, and to this union two sons and one daughter were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Humphreys; and a sister Lucille Simpson. Clay is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Esther, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Mary Humphreys, of Independence, Missouri, and Donnie and Pam Humphreys, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzann and Tom Gladden, of ElDorado Springs, Missouri; six grandchildren, Tammi, Julie, and Amy Humphreys. all of Lebanon, Missouri, Alesia Burns, of ElDorado Springs, Missouri, Melissa Brenneke, of Jefferson City. Missouri, and Johnathan Humphreys, of Independence, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Vaughn and Connor Burns, both of ElDorado Springs, Missouri, and Jessica Brenneke, of Jefferson City, Missouri; two sisters, Lillian White, of Grovespring, Missouri, and Virginia Pearson of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Competition community area and graduated from Competition High School. Shortly after he and Esther were married, they made there home on their farm, south of Lebanon, Missouri, and lovingly raised their family. Throughout the years, he not only owned and operated a dairy and stock cattle farm, but also worked for Detroit Tool Metal Company for eighteen years. Clay was an active member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, near Competition, and had served in many capacities, including being church custodian. He was involved in many community functions, and had served on the board of directors of McBride Cemetery, and as secretary/treasurer of the Lower O'Dell School. In his spare time he enjoyed attending sporting events, and watching sports on television. He was very supportive of his family and liked attending school functions involving his grandchildren. He enjoyed working on his farm and especially cutting hay. Clay was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered as a respected farmer and stockman, a devoted family man, and a concerned citizen and friend. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Services were held Monday, January 12, 1998 at 11 A.M. at the Holman-Howe Chapel in Lebanon, Missouri, The Ministers were Rev. Charles D. Stokes and Rev. David Douglas.
