Information from research by Betty Jones:
Daniel was born in North Carolina, moved to Tennessee and then to Missouri, about the time of the Civil War. Daniel and Sarah settled on a homestead near Orla, Missouri. This homestead was later known as the Clay and Esther (Jones) Humphreys farm, located one mile North of "O" highway. Daniel and Sarah raised eight children here. Daniel and Sarah are buried on the Clay and Esther Humphreys place along 5 highway. The graves are marked with large rocks and they are now in the middle of a blackberry patch. Clay and Esther bought tombstones for the graves some time before Clay died; but to date they have not been put on the graves.

His father's name, John? He is on the 1850-1854 Crittenden Co., KY Tax
List. Joseph Aaron is reputed to have shot Justinian Thurmond in a dispute
over a horse in 1854. It is documented that Joseph Aaron was charged with murder at that time and also that Justinian was shot at that time, but
have found no documentation to prove that Joseph did, indeed, shoot
Justinian. This information is from Brenda Joyce Jerome.

John moved to Cato Township, Clay County, Illinois in 1835. He was appointed postmaster.

The following information from Robert T. Jordan, Houston TX. Robert is the 3rd Great-grandson of John Jordan.
John Jordan was born in England in 1796. On May 6, 1826 in Fayette County, Illinois he was married to Louisa Elizabeth Hornick, born in Germany in 1805. He was still living in Fayette County in 1830 according to the Federal Census. Sometime in the early 1830's he moved his family to Clay County, near Xenia, Illinois where he purchased 3 tracts of land. He opened a store and from 5-28-1836 until 10-4-1839 he was the postmaster of the Cato Post Office at Xenia. In the 1850 Clay County census his occupation was listed as a shoemaker and at this time he was listed as being blind. John died April 16, 1859 in Clay County. His son Fredrick W. Jordan was the Administrator of the estate. A charge of $3.50 was paid to James H. Sorey for the "making of one coffin". Isaac Baity was the lawyer for the estate.
