Notes for MISSING BRASWELL:
Why do I have a "missing Braswell" generation? Well, there is a site of family history concerning the Braswells. And this site says that there is a generation missing but that there is good reason to believe that Jesse Braswell is from the Jacob Braswell/Elizabeth Ruffin line. Until I learn otherwise, I will leave this leap of faith in my family tree.
Here is the excerpt from the Website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~westxan/np68.htm#iin5463
Here is the big mystery. This generation and connection between Jacob and Elizabeth Ruffin Braswell is NOT documented, and in fact may not exist. Jesse may Not in fact be the grandson of Jacob and Elizabeth.
This is My theory based on researching the names passed down, locations, associated famlies, and other misc. info. The age difference of Jacob and what I propose as his grandson Jesse is why I have added this unknown generation. Jacob and Elizabeth sold land in Bertie county, North Carolina in 1827, and received a grant of 284 acres of land north of the Tar River and in an eastern direction of Swift Creek in 1728.
This time span allows for this unknown child to have either been born, grown, and not followed with his parents to N. C., or... More likely, upon reaching age, to have returned to Brunswick co, Va. to start his own family.
Ray Sasser speculates that this Braswell is John Braswell/Brassell (m. Jane Cooper Lewis abt 1740) based on land records.
