In 1847, John appointed his son William L Braswell "of Fayette Co., Tn" to represent him in acquiring his rights from the estate of Elizabeth James (John's mother-in-law and William's grandmother) in Rutherford Co., Tenn.

From Ray Sasser: "Jesse Braswell (Jr.) [Warren's father] never left Brunswick County, so you won't confuse him with any Jesses in Tennessee. However, John Braswell (son of Jesse Sr. and Lucy) had a son named Jesse J. Braswell who did go to Tennessee; he is the one who lived in Fayette County and died there in 1880. His name appears at least once in Tennessee as "Jesse G. Braswell" and also
as "Jesse Bradswell."
-
1840-1844 Fayette County Court Minute Book B (Tennessee) listed a Jesse Braswell with various spellings of Jesse Brasswell, Jerus S Brassell (the double S is underlined to indicate a question of the proper spelling), and also I J Braswell. The three notations all indicate he was a hand for working the Stage Road in Fayette county 'from 15 mile post to the county line'. This would have been the last 15 miles of state road before entering Shelby county.
Also listed as hands are Samuel and Phillip Seward.
There are several Jesse Braswells and I am still researching which is which.

Petition made in Fayette county, Tenn and heard Sept. 18, 1895, against Jacob Braswell by his heirs. I assume the year listed is in error. Several reports spell his name as Brasswell. This is the only person in the family line that I have found with a variation spelling. It seems he reached west Tenn before 1842, and died before 1856. I suspect he is buried in Seward Cemetery, Eads, Tenn. There is a Jacob on the 1850 census in Henry county, but I cannot find him or Elizabeth on any 1850 census yet.

LIZABETH SEWARD:

There is a Seward Cemetary in Eads, Shelby, Tenn. (still being taken care of by Ronnie & Paul
Seward according to an Aug, 2000 post on GenForm.) Some Sewards may be buried in a cemetery in Fisherville, Tenn. (not a far distance from Eads). Eads is just a short distance from Memphis on U.S. Highway 64.
In her will of 25 June 1856, proved 11 Nov 56, Elizabeth Braswell of Shelby County, Tennessee, bequeathed "Whatever money I may die possessed of be divided equally between Martha Elizabeth Moore, Lucy Wickham, Marcus Braswell, Columbus Calhoun Huffman, and Susan Ann Briley." WB3E, 1855-1862, #1670, page 30. Elizabeth left the bulk of her estate - 50 acres each - to her five grandchildren, Caroline Braswell, Susan Ann Briley, Columbus Calhoun Huffman, Martha Elizabeth Moore, and Rebecca Wickham. She also left "My old negro man Stephen has served me long and faithful, I desire Lucretia E(theridge) take him and treat him well." \\
I assume Caroline is the adopted daughter of Marcus.

1850 Shelby county, Tenn census, p 108, 6th Civil District shows:

INIFRED NANNEY:
From Website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~westxan/np63.htm#iin5278

Some reports spell it as Nanny. She had six known siblings.
Ancestry.com: Winifred Nanney, born 15 May 1793, Brunswick county, Virginia, married Absolem Williams, marriage date not listed. Gives death date as 1794. Obvious problem with being married but only lived one year. I have to assume this Williams marriage is confused with someone else.
Note: both Williams as surname (her sister-in-law, Nancy, married a Williams) and Tabitha as given names appear in connections to Braswell family.

  i.   JESSE M.10 BRASWELL, b. Abt. 1821.
  Notes for JESSE M. BRASWELL:
According to "Civil War Soldiers From Brunswick County, Virginia:"

On 1 March 1862, Jesse enlisted in Coleman's Artillery and served briefly. Reported sick in April, he was discharged in July 1862 after only four months in the Army. His discharge said he was suffering from "phthisis pulmonalis" -- tuberculosis of the lungs. Confederate records described Jesse as 45 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches, tall, with dark complexion, dark hair and blue eyes.

Jesse returned home and went on farming. As far as information is available, he never married. When the census was taken in 1870, he was reported as 50 years of age, living in Meherrin Township, and Martha P. Owen, age 32, was living with him as a housekeeper. In 1880, he was living in Powellton District and was a miller. His sister, Elizabeth, was living with him. No record of Jesse after 1880 has been found.
