Raymond J. (Ray) Ladd, 37, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2000. He is survived by his mother, Goldie Garrett Ladd; his three sisters, Cathy Brown, Janet Ladd and Pam Bradby; four brothers, Thomas Ladd Jr., Michael Ladd, Preston Ladd Sr. and Donald Ladd; also his foster son, Nicholas Wright; and many nieces and nephews.

His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, and where funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Monday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

The man found slain Thursday in his apartment at 3336 Stuart Ave. in Richmond's West End has been identified by police as 37-year-old Raymond Ladd.

But again yesterday, police wouldn't say how he was killed, and the detective assigned the case declined to be interviewed.

Ladd, who was single, was employed by the Henrico County school system's transportation department, a neighbor said. Henrico schools spokeswoman Janet Binns confirmed his employment.

"Every now and then, he would drive a school bus and stop by his apartment around lunch time," the neighbor said.

"When I was out raking leaves and he came by, he would stop and speak," she said.

Ladd's body was discovered in his upstairs apartment at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, according to police. His apartment is one of four in a building on the corner of H2H2Stuart and Roseneath avenues.

Police have said they found no signs of forced entry and believe Ladd may have known his killer.

As of last night, police had made no arrest in the case.
