Mary Effie Goodwin 23 May 1905 in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

      3. Mary Effie Goodwin, born 29 Sep 1886 in Pleasant Hill, Wood County, WV; died 19 Aug 1949 in Charleston, West Virginia. She was the daughter of 6. James William Goodwin and 7. Lois Ann Chancellor.

      Burial: Graceland Memorial Park located off Highway 213.
      Superintendent of McJunkin Supply Company, member of the Masonic Lodge, hunter, and expert game cook. Both George and Effie enjoyed playing bridge with friends. They also enjoyed visiting friends and relatives in Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. They were Baptists and Democrats. They were large people with generous natures. They had six grandchildren living with them at one time.

      Was in the U.S. Army. Pictures of him taken when his children were infants show him in uniform as a tall, slender, intellectual looking person with glasses. He was in a terrible car accident which left him in great pain and emotional distress. He committed suicide.

Harold P. Custer

BIRCHWOOD, Tenn. - Harold P. Custer, 90, formerly of Charleston, W.Va., passed away Feb. 3, 2004, at the home of his daughter, Patricia Kecskes of Birchwood.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Custer.

Mr. Custer attended Gamble Road Baptist Church, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with 33 years of military service and retired from DuPont with 30 years of service.

In addition to his daughter, survivors include his wife, Eloise Weaver Custer; daughter-in-law, Becky Custer of Birchwood; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Service was 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home, Chattanooga, Tenn., with the Rev. Gurney Beard officiating. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military graveside rites.

The Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
