Notes for Millie Holliday: There is a Milly Young in the 1820 Census of Nicholas County. 2 Males under 10 (1810-1820) 1 female under 10 1 male 10-16 (1804-1810) 1 female 10-16 1 male 16-18 (1802-1804) 1 female 16-26 (1794-1804) 2 males 16-26 (1794-1804) There is a Mathias Young also listed in the 1830 census of Nicholas. 1 male under 10 (1810-1820) 1 male 16-26 (1794-1804) 1 male 45 & over (1775) No females in family. The female listed in 1820 could not be the Milly Young who married Mathias Young in 1795, but could be a daughter. The one male born 1802-1804 could not be her child and the two males born 1794-1804 could not be her children. In an e-mail 8 Aug 2001 Brenda Hickman writes: In Kanawha County in 1810 there was one Holiday except they spelled it Daniel Holyday. Didn't find him in 1820 Census in Kanawha County. Then in the 1830 Census Daniel Holiday showed up but in Nicholas County. In 1820 in Nicholas County there was a Joseph Hollidsay. And in 1826 in Nicholas County there was a David Holliday who married a Polly Lilly. |

Braxton County in the Year 1836 Persons Names Chargeable With Taxes The following is a list of taxable property and tithables within the County of Braxton for the year 1836. Braxton County was formed in that year from parts of Lewis County, Nicholas County and Randolph Counties. There were 455 white males over 16 years of age (the first number after each name) in the county. These tithables owned a total of 38 slaves (the second and third number after each name), 577 horses (the fourth number after each name) and 5 studs (the fifth number). At that time there were two free negroes residing in the county. The slaves were divided into two categories, those males between the ages of 12 and 16 years and those males over 16 years of age (the second and third number after each name). One man in the county owned a carriage - Marshall Triplett. Young, John 1---- Young, Bazel 2--1- This John could be a brother of Bazel's from the 1850 Census 40 468 468 Young John 62 M Farmer 200 " 41 468 468 Young Susan 45 F " 42 468 468 Young John L. 16 M " 1 468 468 Young Margaret 14 F Virginia 2 468 468 Young Rebecca 12 F " 3 468 468 Young Mary 10 F " 4 468 468 Young Nancy 8 F Although the identity of John Young's father is not certain, I have added him to the children of Mathias as the family tradition is that John Young's son, David, was a cousin to Henry Young. Therefore John and Bazel would be brothers and Bazel's father is Mathias. Information for the descendants of David Young is from Craig Hill in an e-mail dated 24 Mar 2001. This copy of the census did not list relationship to head of household. |
