Generation No. 4

      8. Welch B. Bird, born 31 Aug 1828 in Independence Township, NJ; died 19 Aug 1873 in Port Oram, New Jersey (Source: New Jersey Archives Death Record and Union Cemetery Hackettstown Warren Co., Cemeteries Vol 13 DAR #135.9). He was the son of 16. Joseph Bird and 17. Amy Shriner. He married 9. Christiann Seals 13 Jul 1854 in Independence Township, NJ (Source: FHL Film 0584584 NJ Marriages and Deaths.).

      9. Christiann Seals, born 05 Mar 1836 in Drakestown, Morris Co., NJ; died 13 Jul 1888 in No. 4 East Morris Canal, NJ (Source: New Jersey Archives Death Record B-69 and Union Cemetery Hackettstown Warren Co. Cemeteries Vol 13 DAR #135.9). She was the daughter of 18. Joseph P. Seals and 19. Mary Ann Mitchell.

Notes for Welch B. Bird:
Listed as Lock Tender on birth record of son, Stewart E. Bird born 1858 At Ginnington, NJ (Guinea Hollow) - may have been named for the many guinea hens there.
      Lock Tender, Lock 2 (later4) West, 1860-ca.1863
Lock Tender, Lock 3 (later 2) East, ca. 1863 (work record from Bob Goller)
Died of consumption at age 45

Notes for Christiann Seals:
The Marriage Record for Welch and Christiana gives her parent's name as Joseph and Mary Anna Searles. This record is under the name of Wesley rather than Welch. Christiana's age is given as 25 yrs at time of marriage.

In some records Christiann's first name ends with an "a" and her last name is Searles. The name seems to have developed from Searles to Seals with the passage of time.

1850 Census for The Township of Washington, Morris County, NJ taken 3 Sep 1850 lists Joseph Seals and Mary Ann his wife with children Susan, James, Isaac, and Robert. Christiann's death certificate gives parents as Joseph Scales or Scates and Mary Ann Scales or Scates. First Marriage Certificate of son, Stewart E. Bird lists name of Mother as Searles or Seales. Stewart E. Bird's death information given by his second wife gives the last name as Seals.
