Notes for Francois LeSueur:
Francois Le Sueur was a civil engineer. He came to America which his sister, Jeanne in 1657. They came to New Amsterdam (NYC), lived in Flatbush, Long Island; then moved to New Harlem in 1661. He had just completed the engineering work for the town site of Harlem at that time. Early in 1663 he left Harlem because of excessive taxation, going to Esopus, NY. Francois served as a soldier in the Esopus Indian War. Because of failing health, he returned to New Harlem with his family about 1670. He died the next year at New Harlem.
Francois Le Sueur died when Nicholas Lozier was about three years old. Nicholas was raised by his Dutch mother and her relatives who imparted Dutch customs to him. When Nicholas married, he moved from Harlem to Hackensack, NJ to farm. He purchased the farm from agents of King George of England. It remained in the Lozier family until 1930. It is shown on the Erskine maps used by Gen. Geo. Washington as "Lurziers" house and "Lurziers Hill"
