2.  JEAN ANCETRE2 BELAND (JEAN1) was born October 17, 1655 in St. Eloi de Rouen, Normandie, France, and died March 8, 1731 in Neuville, Pte. Aux Trembles, PQ.  He married GENEVIEVE GODIN July 18, 1677 in Contrat Notaire, Romain Becquet, Neuville, PQ, daughter of BARTHELEMI GODIN and MARTHE COIGNAT.  She was born January 30, 1649 in Ville de Quebec, PQ, and died December 4, 1726 in Neuville, Pte. Aux Trembles, PQ.

Notes for JEAN ANCETRE BELAND:
It is believed that Jean Beland arrived in New France in 1675 and settled in Neuville.  At the time of his marriage to Genevieve, Jean was 6 years her junior.  After a marriage contract was signed on July 18, 1677, the couple appeared before a traveling missionary to have their union blessed.  Jean Beland was the 2nd husband of Genevieve Godin, her 1st husband was Antoine Boutin, and the father of 5 children they had together. The marriage agreement reveals that the couple put all their property in common usage.  The Boutin farm, situated between those of Pierre Bouvier & Louis Delisle had an old shed, a small cottage & about 8 arpents under cultivation by both plow & pickaxe.  Baliff Guillaume Roger & shoemaker Jacques Emond placed their signatures as witnesses before that of notary Becquet.  Jean Beland signed with the flourish of a cultured gentleman.  In the census of 1681 Jean Beland & family still lived in the seigneurie of Dombourg-Neuville it also indicates that the household was credited with having 3 head of cattle, and 20 arpents under cultivation.  This wealth placed them in the average category for the times.  

The new family increased at Neuville with the arrival of at least 6 children.  On July 17, 1709, Madame
Beland made a gift to her son Jean Beland of what she posessed, on the condition that the latter feed &
support his parents, both in good health & in sickness, until their deaths.  The ancestress of the Boutins
& the Belands was buried in the consecrated land of Pointe Aux Trembles, on Tuesday, December 4, 1726.  Curate Robert Dumont officiated at the funeral. Genevieve was 76 years old and very worthy,
Jean Beland went to join her on March 8, 1731.

The family land, first owned by Antoine Boutin, then by Jean Beland (both father & son) was held in the family for nearly a 150 years.  The second Jean Beland left it to his son Jean-Francois on March 3, 1747,
the transfer having been notarized by Jacques Pinguet.  On March 3, 1779, in the presence of a notary named Plante, Jean-Francois gave the land to his son by the same name.  Some 20 years later, on
November 28, 1798, as notarized by Guillaume Larue, the son sold it to his brother Charles who worked
the ancestral land for a few years & it remained in the hands of Beland owners until 1811. He was the last of the Belands to do so.

The Beland ancestral land can be traced by land survey maps of 1859 and 1871, having changed hands
a number of times.  It was handed over to Ernest Noreau and in 1958 to Paul Noreau.  This is all written
in Volume 57 of the present day land records & survey maps.

On Antoines arrival in Quebec he first held the post of Drummer in the garrison at Chateau Saint Louis, but it was not long before he received a land grant from Governor Avaugor.  This holding contained 10 arpents on the Saint Charles River in what was then called the "commune" of Quebec.  On April 16th, 1665 Boutin sold this land to Vincent Poirier dit Bellepoire for 90 livres.  Two years later Poirier deeded the same to the Jesuits for a price nearly three times for that he had paid for it.  On August 1665, the Jesuits exchanged this land for a bit of the property of Denys de la Trinite which was contigous to their domain called "LaVacherie".  According to historian Marcel Trudel in Le Terrier du Saint Laurent en 1663, page 247, the old land of Boutin is situated today in the heart of the commercial centre of what is now Quebec City.

Genevieves name is also noted in the book "Our Ancestors of the 17th Century" by Godbout, as Gaudin or Gandin.  Genevieve was baptized at Quebec City on January 30, 1649.  At the ceremony was sponsors
Guillaume Couture & Genevieve Bourdon & the Jesuit priest Joseph-Imbert Duperon officiating.  Genevieve grew up in the capital of the colony & what is more, she knew how to write her name. Aux Trembles, Ile de Montreal, PQ, daughter of JULIEN COUTANCINEAU and MARIE LANGLOIS.  She was born June 25, 1673 in Ville de Quebec, PQ, and died November 11, 1713 in Neuville, Portneuf, Pte. Aux Trembles, PQ.  He married (2) MARIE JEANNE MOREL January 13, 1716 in Neuville, Pte. Aux Trembles, PQ, daughter of PIERRE MOREL and MARIE LEBLANC.  She was born 1691 in Beauport, PQ, and died July 23, 1744.

It is believed that following the death of Roch Beland dit Daraiche, his wife Genevieve Lepeau  remarried
to his brother Joseph, this being her 2nd & 3rd marriages, as she was married previously.  Taken form the book "Nos ancetres", by Godbout.  Roch's name is also found recorded in some instances as 
"Charles".  Tanguay lists the marriage of Charles "Roch" to Marie Catherine Hely dit Breton in 1765,
it gives no date & only 1 child, a son born in December of 1765, Catherine possibly died in childbirth.

The marriage was short as Gabriel died soon after & Genevieve remarried in 1762 to Roch Beland dit Daraiche & had 9 children.  Following the death of Roch, Genevieve entered into a 3rd marriage to Joseph Beland dit Daraiche, the brother of Roch on August 22, 1787 in Perce, Gaspe, PQ. After the death of her father, then closely followed by her mother, Rose Delima lived with the Langevin family in Hull who were friends with the family of her parents the Belangers as well as the Beland family. Sometime around 1901 or 1902 she and her brother Domina went to live in the Britt area with the Belands.  Domina age 16, drowned when he went thru the ice on the French River  about 1902, and she went on to marry Jean Baptiste Beland.  After the death of Jean Baptiste in 1914, Rose Delima married her husbands brother Francois in 1923 & later had 1 child together, Laurette.  Her sister Cecelia remained in Montreal living with a cousin but kept in touch.
