1.  BENJAMIN2 KIPPEN  (HENRY1) was born February 4, 1790 in Liverpool, England, and died February 24, 1869.  He married FRANCES BAGG 1815 in Burin, Newfoundland.  She was born 1797, and died June 15, 1867 in Burnt Island, Newfoundland.

Benjamin Kippen the son of Henry Kippen & Elizabeth was born in 1790 in Liverpool, England. He also 
had 3 brothers George, John & Thomas. Research indicates that the 4 brothers immigrated as servants, (sailing from Scotland via Dorset & then to Fortune Bay)  to the "Newman Brothers" fishing agents. They were first stationed at Little Bay & later at Belleoram, Newfoundland. Marriage records for Benjamin & Frances indicate that they were of the Catholic faith & married in a Roman Catholic church in Burin, Newfoundland. The couple resided at Deer Island, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland at the time of the marriage.)

Benjamin & wife Frances Bagg were the first settlers of Burnt Island. Benjamin Sr. is buried in Belleoram & the burial site is marked with a large tombstone.

The family of Frances Bagg is said to have been in Conception Bay before moving to the south coast. 
Being a Roman Catholic, she married Benjamin Kippen in the RC church in Burin in 1815.

He married (1) ELEANOR CAINS September 20, 1837, daughter of GEORGE CAINS and FRANCIS ??.  She was born September 24, 1817 in Lamaline, Newfoundland, and died Bef. 1859.  He married (2) ANN STRICKLAND June 6, 1859 in Channel, Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland.

James was baptized May 2, 1835 in Burnt Island, Newfoundland. Found excerptsin the Journal of Rev.
Martin Blackmore:  " July 28, 1846 - Visited all the families in Burnt Islands, 9 in number & gave notice of my intention to hold service in the afternoon. About 4 o'clock crossed to the house of Benjamin Kippen &
a large congregation soon assembled. Christened 7 children 7 afterwards addressed the people - took
tea with the godmothers & arranged for a crew tomorrow to carry me on the Isle-au-Morte. Baptized were
James & Sarah Kippen of James & Eleanor Kippen, Frances & Sarah Guillaume of Michael & Elizabeth,
Anne Kippen of Benjamin & Francis Kippen, & Benjamin Kippen of John & Elizabeth Kippen, all families of Burnt Island."

Eleanor's name is also found on some records as Eleanor Cane, she was baptized on Oct 4, 1818. Not 
much info found on the Cains name to date, except for Edmund Canes & wife Fanny, their son Isaac Caines baptized on Oct 1, 1830 by Rev. Edward Wix, the family being of Deadman's Island, Nfldd.

Sarah was baptized May 2, 1835, Burnt Island, Newfoundland. Sarah may have married a 2nd time to
a John Martin. The burials of Sarah & her husband Matthew King were found recorded in the records of
Burnt Island Anglican Cemetery 1850 - 1900. The records go on to state that this is a small cemetery on
the island, in the comminity of Burnt Island. The cemeteris Anglican 1850 - 1900, only 7 or 8 stone markers with 6 to 8 wooden crosses. One marker is broken off & no info on the individual, another with several children listed is unreadable on the top part.

her old age she lived with her son Samuel at Chimney Cove & is buried there in the " new " Anglican

10.  WILLIAM4 KEEPING (JAMES3 KIPPEN, BENJAMIN2, HENRY1) was born Bet. August 1862 - 1863 in Newfoundland.  He married SARAH E. BARTLETT May 24, 1885 in Channel, Port Aux Basques,  Nfld, daughter of WILLIAM BARTLETT and MARY TAYLOR.  She was born July 1867 in Channel, Newfoundland.

Notes for WILLIAM KEEPING:
William Keeping & Sarah Bartlett were married at the Methodist Church in Channel in May of 1885. It is also believed that William & Sarah had a 5th child Joseph, who died in infancy or at a young age. In the 1921 census of Newfoundland  they resided in Channel, Port Aux Basques, aged 58 & 54 years, after the death of Sarah he remarried a woman named Jennie.

Annie Maude Keeping was the daughter of William Keeping b.Aug 1863 and Sarah E.Bartlett b.July 1867.
William & Sarah were married May 24, 1885 in Channel, Port Aux Basques and raised 4 children there.
Along with daughter Annie Maude were sons William James b.April 1885, Clarence b.Nov 1887 and 
Samuel (it is believed that Samuel died of TB at the young age of 21years). Sources also indicate that 
there was a 5th child Joseph who died as a young child or infant.

At the time of his marriage to Sarah Bartlett the marriage document (from the Newfoundland Archive)states that he was a widower. Following the death of 2nd wife Sarah Bartlett, William is said to have remarried a 3rd time to a woman named Jennie.

Sarah Bartlett's parents were William Bartlett b.1835 (the son of William Bartlett a Wesleyan Church
Minister & his wife's name is unknown) & Mary Taylor b.1840 (the duaghter of James Taylor a fisherman
& wife unknown). William Bartlett & Mary Taylor were married Sept 15, 1862 at Channel Wesleyan
Chapel in Channel, Port Aux Basque, Newfoundland.

It is believed that after the birth of their 1st child, Daniel & Annie Maude moved to Halifax, NS. where 
Daniel worked in the coal mines.  Around 1925 moved toToronto, living in the same house for 55 years, in the Dufferin & St. Clair area of the city.

Witnesses at the marriage of Hugh & Emma Jane were Charles Collins & Mary Jane Kippen, both of 
Perth, Ontario. Info from the marriage document of the couple indicates that at the time of Hugh's marriage to Emma Jane, he was a labourer, age 22 years. Some records found indicate that the date of 
their marriage was Sept 16, 1885.
